Hi guys, how you all today? hope you had a nice weekend, I think the winter is fast approaching....it's bloody freezing out there today! girls I have to share this with you...I went up last night to visit my mum in the nursing home....lol I thought I was in the twilight zone, my mam god love her is becoming a little confused now, and one of my sisters had taken her to her house for lunch, and when she brought her back told her that I would not be long in to see her. So went I arrived about 15mins after she was back, and she said oh god Jacqueline I thought you wern't coming I was statrting to panic, ach god love her. but then she asked if I would stay long enough to put her to bed and I said I would, this was at 6:30 she goes to bed round 8:30/9 this ? was asked every 5mins up until she was in bed, but there is another wee woman there who cant use her hands and always asks us to give her a wee smoke, the staff are so busy so they dont mind us doing this. but she started as soon as I walked in Jacqueline will you give me a smoke, I told her I would once I had said hi to my mam, she waited for 3 secs then asked again, and again so I went over and give her a smoke, whilst doing this mam was saying aren't you staying to put me to bed love, yes mam i shouted over, dont worry, then just as i finish giving the woman her smoke she then asks would i give her a drink, so in the middle of doing this another wee woman who also knows my name enters the room... ;D hello jacqueline she says! hello lily says I how are you pet? ach I'm not too well, will you help me back to bed? so I did. went back to mam, and just as I was sitting down, the smoke woman started again, told her to wait for a wee while and asked mam did she want a cuppa or anything, when lily came back crying Jacqueline where are you?will you help me back to bed and stay with me ... I again helped her back to bed. this happened around 10 times and the staff also put her back several times! then the smoke lady asked was her fixadent in her bathroom ;D I replied I did not know and couldn't check as I would not be permitted into her room, but would ask a staff member to find out, they did and it wasn't! so for the rest of the evening she kept asking me what she would do for this morning, meantime me poor mother was smoking her "just this last one and then you can put me to bed"f*g! what time is it now every 2mins..other woman constant asking can I have a smoke please, lily help me to bed,. I have now decided I am not going to visit in the evening anymore....lol god bless them they can't help it but it is nerve wrecking! and the staff are just amazing.. I was exhausted by the time I left.

LOL Amanda, you sound like just your mam when you type!!! ;D How are things in Mary I? I went to college there myself - many moons ago! My ten year reunion was actually on last Saturday, but I didn't travel to Limerick for it as I had the Readers' Day to attend here in Dublin. Good job I didn't go - I heard that only six people showed up! Shocking!!!!! I suppose there are still as few men as ever there? I did the Arts degree, and there were slim pickings for the single girl on my course, I can tell you!

Well done laura! and no all's fine I just thought I would share how frustrating it must be for both the patient and staff, nut at the same time try and keep a sense of humour, as they say there but for the grace of god go I, but when god love these women..they can't remember asking for somthing over and over, you would need to have a sense of humour. some you have to treat like a small child, one wee soul even sits nursing a dolly thinking it is her baby! it is a sad situation for to witness I can tell you.

Awwww jacqui thats so sad, ah god help her.....minding her baby...it does make you sad when you visit the nursing homes...we sing at both the nursing homes here at christmas the private & the public one and they so enjoy it...they are like children at that stage...the look of pleasure on their faces when we sing for them is the same look as giving a toy to a child.....i love going there at christmas to do that..... when you see simple pleasure on someones face just from listeneing to the carols , thats the christmas spirit for me... christmas has just become to commerical nowadays, its so wrong...

Our primary school has a couple of projects here. One is that some people with different kinds of handicap come and visit the school one day a week for a few weeks. And another is where the oldest classes go to the home in groups and spend a day there with the elderly.
As for Christmas Angie , I have to agree. I'm amazed when I hear my sisters now already getting things ready and organized for it. I don't even know what I'm going to eat till I go to the supermarket!

I should fink not Claire!! For the love of God its only bloody October!! I went into a shop yesterday who were advertising their Christmas club, selling Christmas merchandise and playing f***ing Christmas music! I felt like screaming and needless to say turned on my heel and walked out!! And then Christmas will no sooner be over til we're getting Easter eggs shoved in our faces in the supermarket aisles! Got a Smyths toy store catalogue through the post this morning too which will prob cause world wars 3, 4, and 5 this evening as there is only one of it and five very demanding children!! Think I'll go and do your stint with the 'grannies' Jacqui it sounds like it might be a bit quieter but only a bit mind you!! God love your wee Mammy she lookd well in your Bebo photies!!
Absolutely brilliant news Laura! Well done missus! There'll be no stopping you now x

How is my wee Una? tell her I said hi.... and Caitroina as well!

Don't even mention Christmas!!!!
I got up yesterday morning to find my 7 year old busy with the Argos catalogue writing out her Santa list!!!! I threw my eyes to heaven and looked into a second mortgage. It amazes me the things kids ask for these days. When I was 7 I'm sure the biggest thing I asked for was a Barbie doll. My 7 year old wants a Nintendo DS and a Wii for her birthday that is just after Christmas. Well she can live in hope there I think!!!

We have a mobile phone, two playstation portables and two ipods to buy for Christmas plus Una's birthday is on the 16th December and Cat's is on the 30th Dec - I'd say I'd need to be getting a book deal pretty damn soon!!! The girls are well Jacqui and are asking after you too!! Auntie Jacqui still reigns supreme:-)

Well I must admit I'm just about organized for Christmas. We have big toy sales here in june/July so got most of the kids things then and put them on layby, only need to get a few small things and then they are done. Jacqui read about your evening in the nursing home and I agree, the nurses do have alot of patience. It made me remember when my Gran was in a home and the lady across from her had cattaracts on both eyes so could hardly see. Anyway it would be a nice bright sunny day and this lady would always look out the window and say 'it's a dull old day". Poor old love, Now it's a bit of a joke in our family, Lol.
