Finished Love Match at the weekend. Very enjoyable, satisfying read. My fave character was Tina's husband Ray - even with his attraction to Cathy (to me that just made him more human and at least he didnt carry through with his temptation!!). Many congratulations Mary - hope you're enjoying all your publicity!

Hello All, New to this forum, so hope that I am not repeating what's gone before, or interrupting your sessions, or just being annoying! I found this site when I was searching for Mary Malone's website/information. I had read the article in the Echo (am also Corkonian) and was inspired by Mary's story. Recently I started writing my first book. I love thinking about my book, the characters, and their lives, and love it even more when I actually get the chance to write it all down. I have several chapters written, and have sent off samples to a few publishers. I just feel very "out here" at the moment, and that's why I love this site. What great support to each other you all seem to be. I was wondering, of course, if anyone (particularly Mary I guess, as fellow Corkonian), would be interested in working with me on this first novel I have subjected a journalist friend of mine to the drafts so far, and she has been great. But I would love someone experienced in the area to tell me, yes its a runner, no you should quit this book and try something else, or where to go next... I hope I havent stepped out of line on this forum just didn't know where to go next ... Thank you so much, Hugs Smurph

Don't think that you are not welcome here, Rowena. We have a little saying here "the more the merrier!". We always welcome new people on here and WE ALL love to chat, not just about books and authors but we talk about other things too (as I'm sure you noticed if you looked in the general chat section). Good luck with the book. What is it about? You'll definately have to let us know how you get on with it. Welcome and I hope to hear more from you soon. Nic

HI Rowena, Welcome to the site! There are lots of readers and budding authors here! Check out the Writing and Getting Published section it is full of really interesting threads for writers like you. (I am in the same position - sending my work out to publishers and agents.) I have found everyone very helpful and supportive here, and I hope you do too!

Wow what a welcome, thanks girls! Great to find a sort of "online coffee morning"! Am in work right now, but already feel a new addition (this forum) in the offing!! OOps!
My book is basically about a woman, who has it all, the man, the job, the life basically, and then the cherry on the cake, she decides to have a baby. And that's when the fun starts. Her perfect world is turned upside down and within 3 months, she has lost the plot, her husband, her job and practically the will to live! Okay it's a little exaggerated maybe, but actually I did want to bring in the issues that women face when they have a baby, the choices that they (not their partners) must make and how - for a generation that has been told we can have it all - mothers will always be mothers first and foremost. I hope that it's funny though, and would love to think it's sort of "Bridget Jones has a baby" in some ways, except Bridget is from Cork, of course!
Now that you know - do you think it's been done before? Is the market too limited? Is it too narrow? I had thought that there was a great opening for this sort of book, but since I started writing others have popped up like "The Rise & Fall of Yummy Mummy" et al. What d'ya think?

Now that you know - do you think it's been done before? Is the market too limited? Is it too narrow? I dont think the market is too limited any more for these types of books at all! An irish author has done something similiar to that kind of storyline before though. Dont panic though From what you said I think it will be different to the books she has wrote! It seems really interested the book i mean! Fair play to you!

Hi mary, Its me again. I lent my copy of Love Match to a friend and she wanted to know did you have other books! I could see her disappointment on her face when i said not yet! i said that was only published a few weeks ago. she said the book was A1 and she always tells me the truth about books if she hates them. She just thought it was brillant! I had to tell you about it!

Thanks so much everybody, Oonagh - tell your friend I'm working on book three right now and book 2 will be out next year.......it's alreay in the bag!
Rowena, I'd be delighted to help you in any way I can - not that I'm an expert or anything, but I know I'd never be a published author without the continued support I received on this site and from terrific generous authors.
Send me a personal message if you want to contact me directly - I'll give you my email address. Have to help each other out in this game, it's part of the fun of writing.
Mary.

I read Love Match on hols and really enjoyed it. Loved Tina to bits! The lotto couldn't have happened to a nicer person. I loved the way she always looked out for her kids and put them first for all of her life. The story hung together really well. Great stuff, Mary!

Mary, I brought Love Match to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon with me, so my copy of the book is well travelled! It was like having a little taste of home while I was away. I also lived in Kinsale one summer many years ago, so I loved the setting!
