I won't make it to the book club this month. I thought it wasn't until next week and I haven't read the book yet! Doh! Don't have time to either as I am working hell for leather on my own novel. I'm nearly finished - fingers crossed!

Hi Megan. Im working on my first novel too and was wondering have you sent any of yours off yet to agents/publishers or are you waiting till your finished? Excue my ignorance if youve got a book deal but im way behind you (Im on chap 11) and wonder should i send off my first three chapters to see what response i get.

Hi Emma,
i don't have a book deal - yet! And I am near completion of my second novel. I sent my first one out to about 15 agents and publishers but have had no joy yet. I am waiting until I am completely finished my second novel, and very happy with it, before I send it off to anyone. ( I am doing this for my own sake cos I couldn't bare the pressure if, by some miracle, someone wanted to see the rest of the novel and it wasn't ready yet!) Though I do understand the temptation to send out the intial chapters before the book is completed because agents take so long to get back to us! I'm never 100% sure how a book is going to end so I can't send off a synopsis until the story is fully written.

Thanks for that, Megan. I know what you mean about not knowing how its going to end - mine is sort of taking on a life of its own too! Good luck and congrats for being near the finishing line!

Thanks Emma. I just finished about five minutes ago! I am in shock and am not quite sure what to do with myself! ( I still have editing to do, and have to print the whole thing out. BUt I have written THE END and have got to the end of the tale!)

Hiya, I haven't finished the book but I'll write about my thoughts on it so far. It's a page turner for me because of the fact that it's funny.....there are some killer one-liners in it. Lucy was easy to like from the very first chapter because of her circumstances, but I like her more and more as the book goes on because of her humour. I think the storyline is very simple, but effective. I like how the backstory with Jason is told.

I am shattered and can't think straight at the mo. I'm trying to remember the story but am coming up blanks. I know I truely loved this book. Lucy, single mother and her daughter wanting to find her dad. God but that could have been my little girl there in that book with her friends. Some of the things she said were just like what my Amy would say.
But how do you find a man that you haven't seen for, what, 8 years, where do you start. And the flashbacks to their students days, you could see he had problems.
Maddie(that's her friend, right) reminded me so much of my primary school teacher. She was in my head the whole time, looked just as Maddie was described.
going to see what you lot are saying

Some really great one-liners in it. I wanted to write some down. One had to do with if you could smell heaven it would be roast potatoes(i think) and gravey. My thoughts excatly

I liked how all the other characters were introduced into the book. I never felt like I was being swamped with them, the way I do with some books.

Yeah they just walked in and out. Not too much info on them yet enough to like or hate them. I liked the vet too, was that Doug
and I didn't like her sister

I loved the one where Fainne said "Grey's going to marry me when I grow up" and Lucy says "Really? I didn't know Grey was joining the priesthood" or words to that effect!

i instantly loved this book it had me hooked, the whole storyline of it was completely different to what i have read before.
I especially liked the way it went back to lucys diary from when she was going out with jason and her student days
i found myself wanting to know with each page what had happened to Jason, at the beginning i didnt like him but i found that towards the end once we found out what went on i grew to like him.

Yep, Doug and his big jumpers! Do you remember the scene where Lucy and Maddie go to Jason's old house to see if they can get any details about where he is now, and they meet his ex-flatmate who's a complete psycho? That was really funny.

My heart went out to him too. The dairys were, lovely way of looking back. And then getting the add job for protective clothing, oh but that was so funny and trying to get her mother to miss it on telly and her father to miss the billboards

I'm not sure how this thing works as i've never been around for one of these before. Do we just post all our thoughts at once like a review, or do we sort of just chat about the book?
