Shirley, when it came near the final day for the deadline they said on the show that the entries were arriving in by the hundred! Wow! I hadn't heard that! Lots of talented people out there!

Hi,
Well I had a call from RTE today saying I was in the short list of 50. They were calling around to check that these 50 fulfilled the conditions (i.e. existed, were who they said they were, weren't published, was their own work). They also said that they had around 700 entries. Tomorrow is the big day and I have to miss the show. I have to hare into town to buy a aerial cable so I can video it just in case. (What happens to aerial cables anyway? They always walk in my house.) Fingers crossed I get in the 14 at least. Anyone else get a call?

Thanks for your good wishes.
Found the missing aeriel cable in a cupboard around the neck of a teddy. (Is it just me...?) Won't get to see the programme until Saturday afternoon. The tension. Everyone else I know will be working...
Of course, if they had 700 entries (and probably another 700 who were going to submit but didn't quite get to it before the cutoff date if they're anything like me) that's 1400 people who will buy the anthology. Plus it's all for charity so people will buy it because of that too.

Well done Katie you did better than the rest of us! I just watched the results and saw the top three being interviewed! Did anyone else see it? What did you think?

Didn't see it Fionnuala - just home from work this minute. Did they say what their stories are about, or is it top secret until the book is released?

Oh, and was Patricia Scanlan on it today? And did they announce the 14 who will be published in total, or just the top 3? Sorry for all the questions!

The names of all the winners were shown at the bottom of the screen Shirley as well as the titles of their stories! The titles were quite diverse as far as I could see. The girl who won was really lovely though, attended a creative writing class and is interested in writing!
Geraldine O'Neill was there as she is providing part of the prize by giving a workshop. Paula Campbell was there also along with the judges but no Patricia Scanlan. They said that the standard was extremely high and that they could have filled twenty books with short stories!
I think the content of the stories must be a secret as there was no great chat about them - the book will be published in the Autumn.

Hi,
One of the names tumbling across the screen was mine! Hurray. Fame at last (but no fortune!) I hope there's a launch party in the autumn!
I wish they had read some extracts of the top 3 stories at least so we got a flavour of what type of stories, subjects and writing hit the mark.

Thanks for all your congrats! I'm still floating on cloud 9. I put the list of names on my blog. I don't recognise anyone but me. I usually do recognise someone in these sort of things as it's a small writing world here so that's kind of strange. Katie emergingwriter.blogspot.com/index.html

Girls have just discovered that I recognised a name and after a bit of investigative work realise that Maura McClean from Glengormley in Co. Antrim who wrote Mother, Daughters and Frogs Legs works in Belfast with a friend of mine! Small world eh! Glad there was a Northerner in the bunch somewhere!

Hi,
I was pretty sure someone would recognise another name on the list! Glad you like the blog. It's a great way of ranting about the trials and tribulations of trying to emerge as a writer from the literary goo. I am writing a book (of course!) 2nd major rewrite stage now so don't hold your breath. The interaction with Poolbeg should look great on my CV though. I'm pathetically grateful and have to stop myself gushing!
