I never heard of that either??that sounds good...longford is that great for getting films in at all....unless they are big huge blockbusters they wont show them here...they didnt even show hairspray...i was so disgusted....
Our cinema in Nenagh has been refurbished, but I haven't been yet. It's the same here Angie. Only block busters and the each film will only run for a week as far as I know. Think I've missed PS I Love you, so will have to wait for the DVD like you. It would be much better anyway to watch it at home, curled up on the sofa with a drink and some chocies. I'd love one of those huge flat screen TV's on the wall. I'll keep dreaming!! LOL
Fran, 27 Dresses is American. It stars Katherine Heigel(?) who plays Izzy in Grey's Anatomy. Can't remember the nam of the guys in it but one of them is a nice bit of eye candy. he, he.
Thanks Nicc I must watch out for it. I'll look it up on the net. I used to be great for knowing all the latest films when I lived in Dublin, but since I moved here I hardly ever go to the cinema. I'll probably have to wait until it comes out on DVD.
Its so expensive to go to the cinema these days...cheaper to get a dvd...for all of us to go it'll cost E32...and a dvd is E5...big difference...even though I love the effect of the cinema it just too costly to go...add on popcorn & sweets and you are looking at E50 for an afternoon out...we have surround sound so we get the big sound effect at home so it not so bad.....
Hi all, a very belated Happy New Year as I haven't been online since before Christmas....
Saw Enchanted last weekend during major January hibernation time...I would HIGHLY recommend it. Amy Adams is very funny and Patrick Dempsey is even cuter than his McDreamy incarnation. A very enjoyable way to ease into the new year!!!
I wasn't wild on Keira Knightley's Pride and Prejudice when I saw it in the cinema. I'm not wild about her and I just couldn't see that guy as Mr. Darcy after Colin Firth. Can't wait to see the Kite-runner though as I loved the book.
This is my year of romance - I'm going to try and see every romantic comedy that comes to the cinema and write my own reviews of them - and mark them out of 10. I'm sick of film critics giving feel good films a hard time. So to start - PS I Love You - which I loved - it's sweet, sentimental, honest, funny - yes, the Irish accents are appalling, yes, the heather is too purple and Ireland looks like something out of the 50's - but those men - Danny from Grey's Anatomy and Gerard Byrne - check out Danny's backside, girls! Swoonville. So I'd give it a healthy 8 out of 10 for leading men and tissue factor alone (if it doesn't make you cry, you do not have a heart). SarahX
Sarah Webb Look out for - Amy Green, Teen Agony Queen: Boy Trouble Coming Feb 09
You're right Angie, a night at the cinema is expensive. Would love the surround sound and the flat screen tv. Maybe next year!! Sarah I love romantic comedy's. I bought Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, and City of Angels. Yes I'm a fan of Meg Ryan's movies. When ever I want a real chill out day I put them on. I bought The Breakup (Jennifer Anniston), but found it a bit boring. Oh another lovery one is One Fine Day. George Clooney is a real dream in it. I know that these movies are old, but some of the old ones are the best. Can anybody recommend some of the later movies?
ive been trying to catch the break up on sky movies but keep missing it but I wont bother now if you said its boring fran..I love one fine day...swoon is the right word for george in that.... somethings gotta give is a good romcom....keanu reeves is cute in that....and what women want...its got Mel gibson in it...need I say anymore???cant think of anything else at the min...
Sarah i totally agree danny had a great back side. Absouletly gorgeous!! The men are just fab!! I love romantic comedies i love the two pride and preduice and both men do it for me. It was a lovely treat to see it during the week. The romantic comedies i own at the moment and ur looking for a good one is Sweet Home Alabama, never been kissed thought the teacher was a finer, Pretty Woman, jerry maguire you had me at hello, The Holiday is good jude law is a fine thing in it. kate Winslet is gorgeous. One fine day is a brillant one as well george is the man
I love Sweet Home Alabama and another of my favourites is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. then there are the 'classics' like Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing - "nobody put Baby in the corner".
Hi, Jerry McGuire was on Living TV last night, and I watched it for about the 20th time. I loved How to Losa a guy in 10 days too. It was funny. I haven't seen the holiday Oonagh, I must look out for it. I know that it's kind of Christmassy, but The Family Man, with Nicholas Cage was a nice romance too. Nicc maybe it was just me, but The Breakup just seemed to drag on. My friend thought it was good, so maybe just rent it to see.
I watched that too fran, its a gorgeous romcom...Dirty dancing is def up there in my top ten...STEP up is a good one...not really a romcom but it has antonio banderas dancing in it...and and that dance one with Richard gere & j.lo in it...ohhh I cant think of the name of it...Richard is taking ballroom dance classes...i just cant remember the name of it...susan sarandon is his wife in it...its a beautiful film....SHALL WE DANCE...I think thats the name....
I loved how organized j.lo was in that...it was amazing...love actually is a lovely xmas movie....would love to just sit down now & watch a romcom...but have to get kids at 3 and get dinner on and then taekwondo tonight. spend most of evening in the car so thats out...maybe tomorrow when they are in school...take a couple of hours out for ME!!!!!Watch something soppy.... ;D
Break up isn't really a rom com. But I did love it as a movie. It's so real and the break up is so inevitable but still you don't want it to happen. I think Jennifer Aniston is totally under rated.
How about Ewan McGregor in A Life less Ordinary and in Moulin Rouge? Or Out Of Sight - JLo at her very very best and as for George...hold me back!
stupid dvd is broken ....if i put a disc in it, keeps saying wrong region....dont know whats wrong with it....i emailed the manufacturers but got no response..it was working on a journey recently but on the way back thats what it said...cant figure it out at all...such a nuisance kids cant watch the dvds anymore...it was a great way of keeping them quiet in the car....no luck with the fridge yet...lol....and the stupid exhaust pipe fell off last night...i hate my car at the min....
love Moulin rouge, i love all musicals...would watch them over & over & over & over again...the phantom of the opera is ab fantastic to watch the costumes are amazing and the singing is outta this world....cant wait to see sweeney todd....johnny sound amazing as a singer...who knew???
Watched the Lake house yesterday on sky movies...its a gorgeous soppy film...such a lovely story...kept you guessing the whole way through...sandra bullock & keanu reeves are in it....really lovely love story..well worth watching....
My Mum and I tried to watch The Lake House when she was last here but just couldn't get in to it. We felt like we were missing something. It was a DVD that Andrew bought cheap over in Thailand and the way it started was weird so we are not sure if that was actually the start or if some of it was missed.
It started weird alright, took a while to figure it out. but it turned out to be lovely...really romantic story...Id been trying to catch it for weeks on sky...every time I saw it mentioned i had missed the start.... watched I am legend as well not a romcom but turned out to be a horror...very good film...couldnt let ev watch though, it would have frightened him....lol...
Saw Sweeny todd yesterday, its ab fantastic...Johnny is amazing in it such a manic look on his face...gorgeous singing voice too...a very gruesome story not like a usual musical thats for sure...didnt know it was going to be that bloody & dark. really really enjoyed it..wouldnt mind seeing it again..my sis saw it in ennis, then flew to london again to see it in Leicester square cinema where johnny was for the premier and she went to see it again last night..lol....I think she likes it.... ;D
Angie I agree with you. The Lakehouse was a lovely movie. I even bought it. I bought some movies in the sale in Xtra Vision at the weekend. Deja Vu. I watched that in bed last night instead of reading. Thought it was very good. But then I love Denzel Washington!! Mmmmm. I also bought The Holiday, as Oonagh says it was good, and Premonition with Sandra Bullock, but I'll save watching that till somebody's here as it might be a little creepy and I'm a big scardy cat!!! I can't even watch the trailers of scary movies, if they come on the tv!! Oh and I bought Flood. Got all four for €30. It would have cost as much to rent them. Looking forward to PS I Love You, and 27 Dresses coming out on DVD. I taped Here Comes Polly, last week. It looked like it was good. I don't know when I'm going to get the chance to watch all of these movies. I never have time. Think I'll have to do what your're going to do Angie. Take a day for me!!! and just slob about, and watch all the movies in one day with some chocolates!!
the holiday was a fab film..i loved it..premonition was rubbish, I was so disappointed in it...and I like sandra bullock but it was terrible...we were all disgusted with it...sorry for that now...Polly is good a very funny film, you'll enjoy that fran...sometimes its cheaper to buy them than rent them... wouldnt mind watching sweeney todd again... ;D
