I had a great few days in Dublin, just went by too quick for me. I arrived around &pm on the Wednesday evening. My dad was waiting for me at the airport with my 19 year old niece, Michelle. Home we went and there was my mother waiting with a fry-up for me, sausages, rashers, pudding, the works. Delicious! I have two sisters living in Dublin and one in Cork. My sister from Cork drove up on the Wednesday with Michelle, who is a shop-a-holic. She thought that she was going to teach us a thing or two about shopping. She was in for a big surprise. Thursday morning up early, showered and dressed waiting for the taxi to drop into the city. Turned out to be and old family friend and the chat was great in the car/van( we needed a 7 seater taxi). Straight to Bewleys for breakfast, great start to the day. Shopping began in the Stephens Green Center and the race was on as to who would get the first purchase. It was was a close call but Tina won it. It was in and out of shops buying bits and bobs here and there and before we knew it it was nearly 2pm! Time for coffee and a big cream cake. At this stage we had all outdone Michelle with the shopping and she was just gobsmacked with all the buying going on. We had brought our special day-out-bags, long fold-able ones with wheels underneath. At this stage three of these bags were full to bursting. We had coffee at a little corner shop in Temple bar with the most delicious muffins and hand made cookies. Then over the Ha'penny bridge to hit Henry Street. When we got to the Ilac Center my sister, who has a bridal shop near by, said she was dropping the full bags off at the shop so we could have our hands free to do more shopping. I got my kids dressed for Christmas and some new things for myself, and to be honest |I can't remember much more. The hunger pangs started to set in and it was off to dinner in the wonderful Gary Rhodes restaurant. Oh My God it was Fabulous. We were bursting for our sins, the food is so great there. Then it was time to get back to the house and sort out all the shopping. You would not believe the stuff bought. I must say though, this is a once a year thing and we save like mad for it, and it is something we can't do with our kids in tow. The next day i had arranged to spend with one of my sisters and got the last few things I couldn't get in town. I had a great day with her and she cooked me a lovely dinner. Saturday came and it was time to get back to my reality.I came with just 2 kilos over weight, not bad. But I didn't buy a book. I thought I would wait til I was at the airport. The shops were packed at the airport, worse than in the city center. I missed the Hughes and Hughes there and thought that there would be one nearer where I get on the plane. But I hadn't counted on the new wing which Ryan air use, they hadn't got the shops opened there yet. I could only get coffee and newspapers. I was sh**ing my self for not having pushed my way into the book shop, but that's how it goes. I came home to a book from Susan! That's my shopping trip over and done with for another year, start saving again and I'm looking forward to next year already.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time Claire! It's probably a good thing that you can only do it once a year as I bet it makes you appreciate home all the more!! As for being able to shop I'd say that I could give plenty of teenagers a run for their money as well - when you don't normally have the time or the opportunity you make the most of it don't you?!

That sounds fab, Claire and loads of fun! It makes me want to go shopping! I love all the details about the food you ate. Shopping takes so much energy, you need loads of pitstops.

I can't imagine you with a big belly Shirley, how many weeks are you now?
We had our Sinterklaas yesterday and the kids are off school today, theachers are having a study day. Kids got great presents, Dylan and Amy got DS lites with a bag and a game, Ryan got a PSP also a bag and game. It's his birthday next week and he was asking everyone for money so he could buy it. But his reaction was priceless when he pulled off the paper. I can't believe he will be 12 next week!

Claire, I'm 26 weeks, and Angie, I'm feeling ok these days, thanks. I haven't felt like myself since I first got preggers though - I'm so tired all the time, and it's so unpredictable - one minute I'm fine, next minute I'm asleep! Not very writing-friendly! But nothing fundamental is wrong, which is the main thing. Not very interested in food - it's a chore to me to eat now (trust me, that is not me at all!!).
Wow, those Sinterklaas presents were really impressive alright! Wouldn't mind those myself!

It's going so fast now Shirley but the not eating is ok as long as baby is growing.
The kids only got such big presents because we had a good year and could save for it and well it's sort of the last time we are doing this. They know he doesn't really exist

You're dead right to buy them lovely stuff while they are still young - they grow up so fast, don't they? Where do the years go! I sound about 90, but it's true! The baby is growing like mad alright, so no worries there! I am eating a good bit, but it's because I have to more than want to. But I'll tell ya one thing - as soon as she is born and the hormones that make me nauseous are gone from my system, I will be eating for Ireland! Can't wait to enjoy food again! I'll want to meet ye all and go for a big dinner!!! On that note, Oons and I are going to meet up some Saturday early next year (sounds ages away but it's only a few weeks really!), so if any of you guys have a few hours to while away in a cafe in Dublin on a lazy Saturday, the more the merrier!! Such a pity we didn't get to meet you Claire while you were over, but it sounds like you had a packed agenda (and a fun one!).

Amanda was only 11months old when I gave birth to keith so I was kept on my toes all the time...so enjoy the resting while you can... ;D

I am, in the immortal words of Chesney Hawks - THE ONE AND ONLY!!! No brother or sisters at all - I always wished that I had but then again sometimes I'm glad especially when I hear my friends saying that their sisters have borrowed all their clothes, shoes, boots etc and they never get them back!!!!
I would love to see you Shirley - you were so tiny at the Writer's Day!! Enjoy every minute of it pet! I really enjoyed being pregnant and you'll look back on it afterwards and wonder where the hell the time went!

Thanks Fionn! I was in the hospital today and all seems well - I have a full scan now on Thursday. I had a mini-scan today and the baby was sucking her thumb - so cute! The mini-scan was just because I've changed to semi-private and this doctor hadn't seen me before, so he literally just ran the scan thingie over my belly. My scan on Thursday will be a lot longer.
