Books in the Park: A Family Fun Day
Marlay Park, Saturday 13th September
Time 1 to 5
A fun day for all the family featuring a host of top authors – including Derek Landy, Judi Curtin, and London’s Andy Stanton of the Mr Gum books fame - face painters, jugglers, balloons, an on-site book shop, coffee van, and a giant signing session.
Marlay Park is a fantastic venue, with a Farmer’s Market, Children’s Playground and full facilities for families. It even has its own peathingys!

The event will be held in the walled garden, which off the courtyard to the right of the house and through the arch.
1.00 – 1.20 – Face Painting and Stiltwalkers
1.20 – 1.40 - Niamh Sharkey: The Ravenous Beast and Other Tall Tales Age 0 to 5
Niamh Sharkey has written many books for younger children including I’m a Happy Hugglewug and The Ravenous Beast and has won many awards including the Mother Goose Award. Her new book is a reworking of Cinderella.
1.40 to 2.10 children’s entertainment - All Ages
2.10 to 2.30: Judi Curtin Author of the Alice and Megan Stories Age 7+
Judi’s Alice and Megan books are huge bestsellers in Ireland. Her latest is Bonjour Alice, about a summer holiday in France that goes horribly wrong!
2.10 to 2.30: Aideen McBride in the story corner – storytelling for younger children – Age 0 to 7
2.30 to 3.00 Meet Andy Stanton of the Mr Gum books fame Age 6+
Andy has travelled from London for this event and will charm the audience with tales of his mad and whacky character, Mr Gum, and how he came up with the idea.
Andy has won many awards for his comic children’s books, including the Blue Peter Award and the Richard and Judy Award (Age 7+). Andy’s new book is Mr Gum and the Power Crystals.
3.00 to 3.30 Children’s entertainment – All Ages
3.30 to 4.00 Andy Stanton of the Mr Gum books fame Age 6+
More Mr Gum fun! With lots of time for questions from the audience.
4.00 to 4.40: Derek Landy The Skeleton Detective is back!
Age 8+
Derek’s new book, Skulduggery Pleasant: Playing with Fire won the Red House Children’s Book Award and was also shortlisted for an Irish Book Award. Derek is a charming and witty speaker, and is brilliant at answering questions from young writers (and detectives!).
4.40 to 5.00 The authors will be signing and answering questions at the Bookshop – bring your book to be signed or buy a new one!
