Got your pm. And you are coming on the night out aren't you?? Not easy with small ones is it but it all goes by so quick. Doesn't seem like it when you're in the middle of it, I know. You must get some photos and put them up here soon.
Glad to hear that you wouldn't put up with that any more. I pity poor Stephen!
Sallys mother was a 'koude kikker' as we say here. (cold frog). It was like she blamed Sally on getting pregnant, tried to shut her out. Didn't like the woman at all

Girls, can i say something here, im gonna be very honest and just say how i feel, maybe some of you will agree with me, and if you dont thats cool, its just my opinion okay.
The book club yeah, well ive been involved in book clubs before and its a chance for a gang of friends to come together and discuss in detail a book which we've all decided on, okay.
Now, I dont know about you but I find here sometimes Im afraid to say too much and am watchin my words cos I dont want to ruin it for the people who havent read it yet.
But surely the idea of the book club is so we can all disucss what we liked and didnt like etc etc.
Do you think girls that maybe those of us that havent read the particular book thats up for book club that month that if we dont want to ruin it before we read it that maybe either we dont join in on that particular night and maybe read the posts at a later date or just join in and if we end up hearing what happens at the end well so be it. Does anyone find that alot of the time someone might ask a question about the story yeah, and then one of us might say including myself now, well, i dont want to say cos i dont want to ruin it for such and such!!
Maybe its just me girls and if nobody agrees thats fine, i promise. But i find when we do come on on our normal thursday night bookclub for over the last year or so, were kinda just saying the bare things we want to say, were not getting in there and tearing the book to shreds with either praise or those who didnt like it, critisicism. Thats what book clubs are for tho, really getting in there and talking about what we liked and didnt like etc etc.
what do you think? Am i just going mad altogether? should i just log off now and go back to Gooing and Gaaing with my babies!!!!

Now to continue, yes lisa you have a good point there. I've never been to a book club, this is the one and only for me. Sometimes people don't have a chance to read the book in time for the club or can't get their hands on it in time. There have been books on here that are just out in Ireland and talked about straight away here. This booked was picked because so many had talked about it and wanted to talk about it. But as usual the same few turned up for the disscuisson. (i know my spelling is bad just bear with me). I come on most of the time because I think it would be awful if nobody came. Charlie has already said that she didn't mind if we spell out what happens.
Lisa I think you have a good point, if were going to talk about a book and tear it appart we should do so. And if you haven't read it and don't want to know what happens then dont read this til you have.
So lisa what have you got to say, Susan you anything you would like to add, Go ahead spill the beans on the whole story!
hope I haven't offended anyone here

What are you reading at the moment, Lisa?
What I was saying about the end was the fact that David wasn't gay after all. I'm obviously glad that Sally ended up with him!!
What was the name of the guy in the book that you were led to believe was his partner? Her mother was dreadful too. . .

Lisa we also have a new thread going in the General section 'pass it on' where we post books on to each other. You must check that out. I got a couple from Marian in Scotland and just finished one, No Wonder I take A Drink. Very funny.
Anyways I really enjoyed Tracys book, and can find little fault. I don't think the cover suited the style of story and maybe that's why I was surprised by her style. As intelligent as Sally was she just diddn't have any confidence. All she wanted was to feel part of a family. Her mother was some woman and I was thrilled when her half sister acknowledged just how emotionlly shut off their mother was. Sally now knew that it wasn't just her, it wasn't something she had done, it was just the way her mother was.

Sorry if I've gone too far no claire your dead right, you havent gone too far at all. I was aware that some of the girls cant get their hands on the books and i appreciate that, sure god i remember when the book club started and for the first few months you couldnt get the book we had picked in time, do you remember, but without fail you were ALWAYS there on the thursday night to join in and that was brilliant! sure jaysus claire there were some night when you were nearly the only bloody one there!! So, i know its hard for some, but what about doing the bookclub every TWO months so then EVERYONE can defintly get a copy of the book and those who just cant get it in their own country, well i have no problem at all in posting the book to anyone no matter where they are in the world. at least this way, we will all have read it and can really get stuck in. what do ya think?

That's right Susan we were led to believe that his buisness partner was more than that. But I liked his sover story that he didn't date customers, that can cause real trouble. And as for gossip, in the changing room about David, well i hear enough at school to know how that goes on. Sometimes I hear things that seem so untrue that I go up to the person and ask them, more or less if it's true. Get it from the horses mouth, so to speak

Well girls, I think anyone who looks at this thread who hasn't read the book or anyone who wants to attend the bookclub but hasn't finished the book knows that certain key points will be given away, so I would think we should all say what we want when discussing books at bookclubs and then it's the responsibility of everyone else to choose not to read those threads if they don't want things to be given away to them, or not to attend the bookclub if they don't want the ending to be ruined for them. I read all of your posts this morning, but I just skimmed over some of them if I got a feeling that something was going to be given away - but it would have been my own fault if I had found stuff out because you know when you read the bookclub thread that key plotlines will have to be discussed, you know? It's up to ye though really because I don't have Internet access at home, and the chances of me ever attending the bookclub are very slim :-( But I might get the Internet set up at home next year.

I agree Shirley if noone has read the particular book discussed at that month's book club then don't look at the threads. I would very rarely be able to attend the book club but going to make a real effort for Marsha's books. The other thing I have to add Lisa is that perhaps people don't want to slate a book if they know the author is going to read the thread but like you at my last book club everyone just got tore into the book honestly.

Thank you everybody for picking MORE THAN FRIENDS for your book club, and for such honest feedback. Don't worry, Marian, about saying what you want about a book even if the author is going to read it. We authors realise that it's part of the gig, having people commenting good and bad. And I don't think any of us, certainly I don't, think my writing is so perfect that nobody could ever criticise it. And I'm still learning my craft, you know, I don't think I've reached some perfect point where I know it all ... so critical feedback is essential to improve.
Thanks again.
Tracy

Well I finished More Than Friends and I loved it one of my favourite books this year I couldnt really find any faults with the book it was the first one of Tracy's I have read and didnt know what to expect but I wasnt disappointed. I liked the end and I'm pleased Sally found happiness at the end
I agree about the book club being every two month as it is hard to get the books sometimes plus these months are just flying by.
