I finished reading this book the other day so here is my review -
It Had To Be You tells the story of life in the small village of Burnaby and follows the adventures of three friends: Molly, the manager of 'Happily Ever After' the local bookshop specialising in romantic fiction, Paige, the village councillor who is juggling the demands of motherhood with a general election campaign and Kate, a shop assistant in the village's designer shoe shop and owner of a dating service called 'Dublin Dummy Dates'.
The story is told through the eyes of the three main characters each of whom have their own chapters which focus on their life with the chapters alternating between the three of them. This is a great way of keeping things separate and yet at the same time the interaction between the characters works really well in this format.
Molly, Kate and Paige are all very likable and believable and the village of Burnaby sounds idyllic. And as for the bookshop 'Happily Ever After'...well it sounds like my perfect place to work. In fact I'd move to Burnaby tomorrow if I could. It sounds like heaven.
This was a very light-hearted and easy book to get into and the storyline and characters draw you in from the very beginning. The perfect escapism after a long, hard day at work. I loved it.
I've tried to think of something about the book that I didn't like...but I honestly, hand on heart can't think of anything. This was a very enjoyable read and I recommend it to everyone. So whether you want something warm and inviting to read on a dark, cold, winter's night or something light-hearted to read on the beach during your summer holiday this is the book for you.
