Well this was fun. It was good to chat while we were all on here at the same time. Maybe next book will be one that more of us have read so more can join in and you don't feel like you are doing it all by yourself Leah.

Hi all! Síle from Dublin here! Sorry I missed the chat - I had to babysit my nieces tonight, but hope to make the next one. However, I haven't read Cecelia's new novel so I had nothing to add this time anyway. I read her first one and thought it was a bit innocent and lacking in depth, but the story held together well. I think she has promise - unfortunately for her she is in the full glare of the spotlight and will be criticised thoroughly everytime she lifts her pen. She will grow up and her ideas will develop, but in public. I look forward to reading her books in a few years time - well, maybe five! But till then, fair play to her for having a go and continuing to have a go. I still have to write book number one and I'm forty At least she has done it - twice!! I really enjoyed reading your messages. I look forward to reading some more. Oíche mhaith Síle

Back again, passed the eyesight test okay - only had to read the bottom line, which was actually quite big, but it was still a bit blurry round the edges. Blaming my use of the computer, but it could be something to do with advancing years! I'm not a great letter writer now, I'm afraid. Did my bit when I was younger, because I was at boarding school, so we had to write at least one letter home a week. I think mum has kept some of them. She's definitely kept the ones I wrote when I was at language school in Germany (many years ago now, so although I'm a German speaker, Leah and Judi, it's very rusty and very formal - I emailed a German girl for a while, and she seemed to understand, but probably only because I would sit there with the German dictionary looking up every second word). If you read the letters I sent home in English, though, you can see that I was speaking German most of the time, because some of the phrases read funnily - almost the direct translation from the German (I think you mentioned that you found that Leah). There's not an awful lot of call for German speakers in Australia, and most of the jobs get snapped up by native German speakers. Like you, Sile, I think Cecelia is probably worth keeping an eye on - her second isn't on sale here yet - maybe they were waiting to see how it did in Ireland and the UK first. When I read her first I had absolutely no idea who she was, although I did wonder why the rights to her first book had been snapped up for a film, even more so after I read it. Although I quite enjoyed it, it didn't grab me like most of the other Irish authors have done. So glad you managed to cop a nice policeman, Lisa. I smiled when Catherine said that when you hadn't appeared, you were probably stuck in Dublin traffic. Every Irish author I've read seems to write in somewhere in their books the awful Dublin traffic jams. If it's not that, it's the pedestrians walking into the middle of the street in Irish towns, whenever they feel like it, without looking! Is it really like that? I wouldn't dare do that in Sydney - they'd just mow me down, if a bicycle courier didn't get me first, and that's on the pavement! I'll see if I can get on tomorrow morning, Lisa - your Friday night - and I'll try to come in later on today and see if anyone's around on your Friday morning. BFN Tschüß!<br>

Good morning everyone, good evening Joan and Nic I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer last night, it was after eleven when I signed off here in Holland. I agree with both Joan and Sile(hello to you too) on the first book. Maybe she tried too hard on the second,I don't know. And Joan you have no idea how bad the traffic is in Dublin city, everyone seems to take the law into there own hands there. I hate having to drive into the city with anyone and mostly keep my eyes closed. There are always road works going on and it always seems to be at the same place! And the work men all just hang around with mugs of tea looking into a big gaping hole Well i hope we get together soon even if it's just to chat, I really enjoyed it last night. Kids have to go to school, talk later Claire

Hi Lisa and Leah,
Well done to the two of you! I had great fun reading your posts this morning. I'm so sorry I didn't log on but presumed as a writer I wasn't 'allowed'. But I must say I did like the book which is why I suggested it. And I think Cecelia is a real talent and someone to watch out for in the years to come. I think it's her ability to tap into the universal that make her v interesting and special. So maybe a different kind of book would be better next time - and more people would read it then! Lisa, I admire your dedication and persistence - you'll go far!
Another suggestion, inspired by Judi's posts last night - every week/month a different writer could be on line at a set time in the evening and you, the readers could ask her (or him in the case of Jaye!) questions about their books. What do you think? I'm game to do it and I know Catherine and Judi might too. So, well done all. Sorry it didn't work 100% but cheers to Lisa and Leah and everyone else who posted.
Lisa and Leah are stars!!

Thanks Sarah for your lovely words, I did enjoy it even though I did mess things up by being late. Was totally unavoidable though.
We did seem to go off the subject of the book though a few times didnt we?! I think though next time after having a bit of practice we'll be much better, I wonder is there a way we can do it in real time, like a chat room and your messages that you post come up straight away? I think what was happening last night was, people were posting but it was taking a while for the messges to go up on the board, probably cos there were so many of us all posting the same time, you know? Was very enjoyable anyway.
I enjoyed maybe the first half of the book sarah, but it so went on way too long for me. Was too dragged out, i just wanted to them to either hurry up and get together or not bother at all!
Thats a brilliant idea about having a writer come on at a specific time so we can bombard him or her with questions! I reckon that would go down a treat! I'd defentley be up for that anyway!
So, whens the next book club Sarah? How do we choose the next book?

Hi Lisa, A month from now I guess - oops that's 23rd Dec!! But it might suit as people will be on hols I guess. And why don't you throw out a few suggestions for a book - and ask for other's suggestions. I'd suggest - has to be 1/ one that's easy to get 2/ that you haven't read before and want to read (this is how most book clubs operate and it seems to work) Hope this is helpful. Best, Sarah

Hi Well done Lisa and Leah for continuing to talk book club stuff, while the rest of us were talking about something else. My excuse is that it was so nice to be involved with people who were so far apart geographically, yet so well able to communicate. I just couldn't help joining in with all the incidental chat. Sorry, Nic, I just noticed that I called you Claire last night - must have been the lack of alcohol.

What do you think? I'm game to do it and I know Catherine and Judi might too. Definitely- I'm working on it at the moment! I'll get a list of writers who are interested in doing it and then work out times etc. Hopefully I'll have some news in time for the next newsletter. xxx catherine

I know it's been a long time since this book was last reviewed but the reason I'm bringing it up again is because my sister-in-law borrowed mine to read and she hated it. I have to agree with you Leah; there was mistake after mistake for example e-mailing (years ago) and talking about the euro (years ago). How it got past the editor I don't know Did anybody else get the chance to pick this book up?
