You may think you know someone inside out, but they can still surprise you.
Sheila and Sam Shaughnessy have been together for years and have three children. Then one day Sam says he’s leaving her – Sheila can’t believe it as she watches him walk out of her life, leaving her to look after the children on her own with no job in sight. Sheila feels her life collapsing all around her and has no idea how she will cope. She can’t sleep, loses her appetite and considers ending it all. One day she seeks solace in St Finbar’s church and finds a Good Samaritan in Father Stephen O’Hara.
And she’s going to need his help, because it’s not long before she discovers that Sam has left her a nasty surprise and there’s plenty she didn’t know about her husband. And while she’s struggling to pay the bills and hold everything together, something serious is going on with her daughter.
When you hit rock bottom the only way from there is up.
I read this book in a short space of time. It was very enjoyable. I could really feel the pressure one of the main female characters was under because her character (Sheila) was written about so well. The introduction of Father O' Hara made this book unique. Yet again one of the main characters was a troublesome teenage girl! It just seems to be the way of fictional books lately! If you find troublesome teenage girls and happy endings a bore to read I'd give this book a miss!

It was enjoyable but bland if you know what I mean! The teenage daughter done my head in! The son had more common sense and he was younger! DON'T READ BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT!!!!!!! I have to agree with you Oons - the rape was taken very lightly. If a woman or man can get over the fact they've being violated like that then - what can I say - only good for them but I think in most cases this would take chunks out of somebody. Did you think the ending was far fetched or too 'happily ever afterish'?

I think 'happy ever afters' that just spring out of nowhere are a Poolbeg thing! ;D
DON'T READ BELOW!!!!
I did feel for Sheila the main character with what she went through; dealing with that aggravating husband of hers was no mean feat!
