Hi everybody,
I've just finished A French Affair. I stayed up late last night to finish it! I think it's Catherine's best book yet, and the descriptions of France were just lucious.
What Catherine does so well is to show us the misunderstandings which happen between people - particularly between people at that delicate time of maybe getting together. Our fears and vulnarabilities cause us to be very sensitive and to read all sorts into what the other person says and does - and of course they're doing that too! It means that couples which are destined for each other are kept apart.
We, the readers, know what both parties are thinking, and I ended up nearly shouting at them with frustration!
Does it all end well? You'll have to read it to find out!
All best, Tracy

Thanks for the feedback Tracy and Oonagh. It's so nerve-wracking about now, wondering what people think of it....

Evie Kinsella has a hectic life. Single mother to her four-year-old daughter, Holly and working in a job she loathes to support them both, a visit to her friend Monique in France is just what the doctor ordered. Envisaging a week of fun and no responsibility, Evie manages to alleviate her guilt of leaving Holly at home. Evie has barely set foot in Monique's house when she realised that this holiday might be slightly more complicated than she hoped. Ghosts from her past have tracked her down and Evie knows that sooner or later she will have to face up to them.
Monique is delighted to have her to visit but she has her own share of secrets that she isn't willing to share, not even with her best friend Evie. The two friends find themselves caught up in a sinister plan, yet neither of them are willing to confront the problems they face.
Catherine Daly is rapidly becoming one of my favourite chick lit authors. A French Affair, Daly's third book, sees her expand her remit to include a mystery theme. Buy it - you won't be disappointed
Also by Catherine Daly All Shook Up Charlottes Way
'A French Affair' got the above brilliant review on bibliofemme.

I finished this book last night, spending most of yesterday reading it. It was a wonderful warm story, which left me hugging the book at the end, something I haven't felt in a while. One of the things I loved about it was that we were not left till the end to solve the mystery. We see the build up to a tragic drama and then we se how all the chacaters get on with their lives after it. A truely wonderful story.
