I can totally understand Oons, it's not easy being a student! It's nice when you can still drop in from time to time

Post by Angie on Nov 9, 2007 10:10:09 GMT
Def not easy being a student.. I think Amanda has gotten quite a shock in the real world...its not like being at home and being taken care of by your mum.. its hard out there...Every penny counts...just think when you are finished Oons, you'll have the world at your feet!!!!

then it gets harder, she has to find a job!!

Post by Angie on Nov 10, 2007 13:35:22 GMT
Thats true.but with Oons qualifications Im sure she'll have no trouble..Amanda works part time in Apache pizza in shannon, very handy for her esp as its my brother-in-laws restaurant..it gives her an extra bit of cash to keep her going..Its a tough world out there..im afraid that my kids wont be able to afford a house of their own when they are grown up..the prices have gone crazy here..you end up working just to pay a mortgage...and dont have much of a life after that...esp here... I think thats why my friend is moving to australia, she just wants a better life for her children.. even my mum was giving out about the government last night, and the way the country is being run..and she never has anything to do with politics...so it has to be bad for her to say something about it..

I couldn't agree more with your Mum, Angie. I think it's about time Ahern bowed out. Saying that the opposition ain't much better I think we're in for a rough time ahead.

Too true..not looking forward to the budget at all this year..bertie should be kicked out not bow out...hes a total idiot.. that thing about the provisional licences holders needing a full driver with them is a joke....what am I supposed to do??find someone to drive around to schools & shops with me?? its a ludicrous decision...why are these people still in government??

But Angie, Ireland is one of the very few, if not the only country to have a provisional licence. In any other country, you either have a licence and can drive on your own, or are a learner driver who MUST have licenced driver in the passenger seat at all times. I have always thought it crazy that a person who has not passed a test is allowed to drive on their own.

Angie, The answer to your question is people keep voting them in because they are afraid to rock the boat. This country is being run by over paid Civil Servants and the rest is a free for all.
Did anyone watch 'High Society' last Thursday?
Susanne, I understand what your saying but I also think the people who got their driving license's some years back without doing a test should be now tested.

Absolutely, Susan, they should! Coming from a country (Sweden) with among the lowest road deaths in the world, I have to say I am shocked at the standard of driving here. Nobody seems to respect the speed limit, a lot of people overtake at the brow of a hill or in a bend and other places where it is obviously dangerous. I am constantly in danger of my life, driving on bad country roads, where so-called 'boy racers' try their best to kill themsleves and anybody else who happen to come the other way. Also, young women (sometimes on school runs) are as bad, driving like lunatics.

I agree Susanne, it shocks me when I go over. The drivers here are so 'polite' compared to them in Ireland. Because I have to pay for lessons and cannot drive in our car is the reason I don't have a license, I can't afford to take the lessons. Even people on the scooters need a 'certificate' to use them. Mind you there was a man caught here the other day at the age of 75 for something silly was driving for 54 years without a license! Even the police couldn't get over it

Ive done the test twice and failed but I def think its to do with my car.I drive a fiat multipla and its a very wide car and you would think you were driving at the edge of the road when you really are'nt..its a strange feeling. coz the examiner failed me on my left hand turns..there are 3 seats in the front of my car...he said I had perfect control of the car he just didnt like left hand turns. I feel it myself when Im in my friends multipla (thats how we meet)..So Im waiting again for the next one, but ive been driving ten years now and I find that some people who have a full licence think they own the roads and drive like lunatics..taxi drivers are the worst...and of course the boy racers and we have a few of them on my road..you would think they were driving in a grand prix up my road... you are right there susan, I voted fine gael this time round and not fianne fail...I thought a change would be good but that didnt happen when bertie got back in there....

Yeah I agree about the Taxi drivers Angie. I think sometimes their looking for you to drive into the back of them!

Some of them are lunatics here..they pull out in front of you and just drive madly.and they have changed the road system here and its awful to drive around now..you dont know whether you are supposed to stop or go with the new lights in town..and not only that they had half the road cut open this morning..made getting to school very difficult...
The puppies are getting big, they are 4 weeks old now and so cute.i brought one of them to school this morning and the kids loved him...they were all thrilled to see one....
Evans book launch is tonight and he's all excited, theres only one other girl from his school in the book as well..as soon as i get the book I'll post his poem...he could'nt remember it!!! Lol.... ;D

girls it was a lovely night, so cute..there was 32 kids from longford in the book..750 poems & pieces of art from 8000 entries...The county mayor and the town mayor congratulated each and every child there and they all got to read their poems out loud....He was so thrilled with himself...I put his poem on the short stories thread so ye can all read it..The book itself is deadicated to Michelle Glancy which is my next door neighbours niece..she was in it last year and unfortunately she died last year in a tragic car accident..she was only 9...It was the first launch of the book last night, and Im sure there will be more of them around Europe...
Too true charlie thats why we dont go out, it would cost E20 to get a taxi from my house and thats before you get a drink..so we prefer to have a drink at home, or one of us drives...way too expensive to go out nowadays...
Claire I hope the kids are feeling better and not driving you too nuts...lol...
