Am in my hotel room in Westport girlies (the wireless broadband connection is great) and am having a ball! The baby is in bed, I'm lying drinking champagne in my pyjamas and I've had a lovely day between the hot tub, the steam room, getting reflexology and a facial and shopping! There are two bookshops in Westport and a rare book shop as well so I had a lovely day browsing - glad to see Claire Allan in the bestseller lists everywhere I went!! They have a lovely Producers Market here on a Saturday as well so bought some lovely unusual jam from an American lady and some jewellery for myself at another stall!
Roll on tomorrow and my Indian Head Massage although I'd like to rewind after that as I def don't want to go home! (sniff)
Hope your surprise is as nice as mine has been Nicc!!

Bought two new books the other day, one about a Chinese woman and one called Ice Trap by Kitty Sewell. Was going to buy Mauve Binchy's Whitethorn Woods but these other ones just caught my attention

The Indian head massage was GORGEOUS!!! It was so relaxing - it comprises of a back massage, neck rub, then a massage of your scalp and then soft facial strokes that would nearly send you to sleep all accompanied by soft music, dull lighting and warm fluffy towels wrapped round you - CLASS!!!!!

Hmmm Claire. I actually didn't finish Whitethorn Woods (slap on the hand for me!). Must get back to it and give it a chance. From what I've heard by others who finished it - it reads to much like a collection of short stories but by the end none of it comes together.
Your weekend sounded divine Fionn. Westport is truly beautiful.

I have to say that I also started Whitethorn Woods Susan and really couldn't get into it - its hard work and from what I remember there are just too many characters and you tend to lose the thread or maybe that was just me and my simplistic head?!!
I have Whitethorn Woods here Claire and you're more than welcome to it if you want it!!

That sounds like bliss. Exactly what i need at the moment, I woke up this morning with a raging headache. Took some pills and went back to bed (lucky the kids are entertained by the telly) for a couple of hours. The headache has eased but I still feel like I need a good LONG sleep.

Hello Everyone!
It feels like an age since I've dropped in here! Well I decided to get my head down and start writing. I've wrote my first children's book in little to know time would you believe and I'm now working on an adults book.
I haven't sent any manuscripts off yet but hope to do so within the next week or so.
Hope everyone is doing good.
I can't believe it's almost Halloween already. The year is almost over. I don't know where the time has gone.
Chat soon.
Susan xx

Good on you Susan, would love to read your stuff.
A friend of mine wrote a story for her granddaughter, all about a girl getting new shoes. The night before she goes shopping she dreams about the shoes and has a great adventure with them. The next day she finds the exact same shoes in the shop. What my friend did was went to one of the digital photo sites where you can get your photos printed into a book with writing beside the pictures, I'm sure you know the sites I mean. She had taken photos to go with the story, and wrote the story alongside the pics and got her book printed. It was a great idea and looks really good

Well done Susan thats fantastic news..fair play to you...xxx Claire that story sounds gorgeous, a real girly story...Keina would love something like that..... An indian head massage sounds fantastic Fionnuala I could really do with one...Keith was in hospital on sat with a very bad migraine...he was screaming in pain and they left him for ages...then my choir conductors brother dropped dead and we had the funeral on monday and it was so so sad, he was only in his early 40s and has 6 kids, the youngest is only 5... Oh and when we leaving for the hospital on sat, we heard strange noises coming out of my dogs box and looked in and there are 2 tiny little puppies... We did'nt even know she was pregnant?? on top of that I gave up smoking last Monday and Im trying really really hard.So a pampering session like that sounds really good....Lol....

Puppieeeeeeeeeeeeeesssss!! I love them. Are they gorgeous? Do tell all, when you get a minute. And best of luck with being off the cigarettes.
Susan,
Congratulations on your children's book. That is wonderful news! And like SHirley said, best of luck with those submissions. I'd love to write a children's book next too but have no clue who to submit to. But sure that's a long way off.

Good woman yourself Angie - stick with the ciggies abstinence! I bet you will be amazed at the difference in yourself after a few weeks. Plus all the extra money you have from not buying ciggies could go on an Indian head massage!

Hey girls, has anyone noticed how many "Secret Diaries" of just about everything that are in the shops these days? I noticed a secret diary of a call girl, a secret diary of a man who wants to have babies with someone, and a few more - they seem to be all the rage at the moment. I have a feeling it's a phase that will pass quickly though!

Thanks Girls. Love the sound of the story your friend wrote, Claire. I love dogs Angie - those pups sound gorgeous. I noticed a secret diary of a call girl, a secret diary of a man who wants to have babies with someone, and a few more - they seem to be all the rage at the moment. I have a feeling it's a phase that will pass quickly though! I've noticed that myself Shirley. It's crazy isn't it? I'm wondering 'Is the secret diary of a call girl', the figment of some ghost writers imagination!

Hi all, Funyy isn't it, but I too rush into Eason's when I go home for a couple of days! Just love browsing all the writers that just don't seem to make it to the Netherlands, well, at least not to the town where I live. I have to say however, that last year, when I was doing my course at the University of Amsterdan where I took a module from the Media studies course, called intermedialities, which dealt with the techniques of adapting from one medium to another. very interesting. Will post my essays on my website for anyone interested. Anyhow, to get back to what i wanted to say, I took to visiting Waterstones on de Spui, which was like walhalla for me. I would go into Amsterdam a lot earlier than I had to, and just soak up the atmosphere in Waterstones. Waterstones is quite small in Amsterdam, but absolutely packed to the brim with fantastic books. There is also an American Book Centre close by, but at Waterstones the collection is more global. Check out the website by the way, for my latest articles - including my essays www.geraldinenesbitt.com
