I saw Marita on the LL but couldn't hear what she was saying because I had a guest - I was wondering alright what she had said. Did you see the woman that was on earlier that only had affairs with married men? Pat just did not look comfortable during that interview at all, esp when she tried to flirt with him!
Fran, I remember the slow sets very well - they used to have them in Easy Street in Nenagh!! (The club in the Ormond - don't know if you remember it. It's probably called something else now, but because I don't live down there now, I don't know. I just keep hearing about Maximus from my sister which I think is in a different location!)

Hi Shirley, Maximus is the same place as Easy Street, and it hasn't changed a bit!! LOL. Oh except the car is gone out of it. They haven't really done much with the place. All I'll say is that it's probably grand for the youngsters but the smell when you walk in to the place would knock you out!!! Don't think that they have changed the carpet there in years!! It's full of teeny boppers on a Saturday night, and it's the usual mad crush at the bar and not room to move. I've only been there once or twice in the last couple of years. I can only take so much of feeling like a great granny!! Friday night's not so bad, more of our age group there. The people who own it now own all the bars on Kenyon Street bar one. They own Dowlings, which used to be Callanans and the name has now been changed to Dowlinz!! It's ultra modern inside but all the character's gone out of the place. They also own The Kenyon, which is across the road from Maximus. That used to be a great place. My boss's sister used to own it. They had a late bar there on Friday's and Saturdays and it was kind of 30's to 40's age group, but now they have a disco bar and it's full of foreigners. The Widows pub is gone, and at the other end of town, the only two pubs that are left are Rocky's and The Hi Bi. The Hi Bi is all changed. You wouldn't recogise it. The only place that hasn't changed at all is Rocky's, which is where we usually go. We are going to brave the Kenyon this Friday night as there's an 80's disco, which might be a bit of a laugh for all of us oldies!!

LOL Fran, you brought me on a serious trip down memory lane there!! Oh damn, no car, and no Cher and Michael Jackson either I presume! :-) The Kenyon was just taking off in the days when I moved away from Nenagh, so I was only in it a few times. It was all The Talbot in my day. Cheap drink, and they used to do the best lasagne, chips and salad for £2.50 at lunchtime (I kid you not) back in the day - that was circa 1994/5 though!!!! Still, I never forgot that lasagne (I am a lasagne freak, except I don't like it much since I got pregnant, but I'm hoping I will go back to my old ways and enjoy it again sometime). Rockys was a bit "old" for us when I was going out in Nenagh (ironic, given that I'd be a granny in there now!). I don't think I would recognise the town now if I saw it - haven't been around the town itself in years.

Shirley, Would you believe I had forgotton about The Talbot. It's still going strong. It's only open at night time now though, as far as I know. The same bar people are still there!! The owner hasn't changed a bit over the years. He still looks the same as he did years ago. I don't know how he does it. One of the barmen had his 50th birthday there recently. I think that he has worked there for 25 years. They had pictures all over the place of him throughout the years. It's still 'The Place' for the youngsters. We have gone in there on the odd Sunday night and didn'd feel too grannyish. They still have great bands. The town centre in Nenagh hasn't really changed in appearance. Just some new shops that's all, and there is a lovely shopping arcade where O'Meara's hotel used to be. Lots of new house built on the outskirts tho. You'll have to come and visit sometime, and show the new baby her roots.

Was that fella in The Talbot called Seamus, Fran? I can't really remember, but I can picture his face alright! Oh, I loved O'Meara's Hotel - all the Irish bands used to play there. Now that I think of it, my grad was there too. Suddenly feeling very ancient! I remember the local bands in The Talbot as well. Don't worry about Val's Day at all - it's such a load of commercial twee! I don't find it remotely romantic. I've insisted that hubby and I stay in tomorrow night in protest of the whole thing. Anytime I've ever been out for dinner on Val's night, the service and food have been terrible because the poor staff are so busy. Flowers are always overpriced for Val's Day, but if men buy a cheap bouquet from Tesco or something, they look like cheapskates so they can't win. I feel very sorry for men at this time of year. Nobody expects women to do anything for men for Val's Day, but there are high expectations for what the men should produce. There was an interesting report on UTV Live this evening after Emma's appearance where they showed the price of roses in places like Aldi and Tesco compared to the florists. One supermarket chain was selling 12 roses for £4 (they were tiny roses, but still, 12 tiny roses for £4), and then a big bouquet from a florist with 12 big red roses and those lovely sprigs of white foliage that you always get with a bunch of roses was £60. Pounds!! Eeek!! They stopped men in the street and asked them which they would buy, and the majority of them said they'd buy the big bouquet because they'd be afraid of looking cheap otherwise!

Shirley, Yeah his name is Seamas, and he really hasn't aged. It's amazing, he even still has all of his hair!! Quite a handsome chap. I agree with you about Valentine's night, even the restaurants here put up their prices for the night. A card and a cuddle would have done me!! Boo Hoo Hoo. I'm feeling sorry for myself. LOL I'm grand really. Quite happy here, I've got my little house all ready, as I've friends from Dublin arriving tomorrow evening. They got wind of the eighties night and decided to come down. There's never a dull moment. You never know I might meet the 'The One' tomorrow night!! LOL. Doubt it very much, in the Kenyon!! Still you would never know. I hope that you had a lovely night. On the subject of Romance, I noticed that there were no romantic movies on the TV tonight. Usually there is on Valentine's night.

Hi Girls, Sorry already posted this on another thread, but the 80's night was a great success and fun was had by all. We didn't leave the dance floor all night. Sometimes they play crappy music at these things but have to say the music was brill. I just refused to dance to 'I will survive' LOL. My pet hate. Actually I thing that's a 70's song!! But they always seem to play it at 80's nights. We were all rather tired on Saturday so we sat around watching tv all day. We'd had enough after three episodes of Jamie at home, so we ended up in the local, Rocky's for Saturday night. The girls left at 6pm yesterday, I was so tired, I watched Crocodile Dundee 2 on the tv and fell asleep on the sofa. I woke up at 2am with a very stiff neck!! Think a quiet weekend will be in order next weekend. Angie, poor you!! My boss just had his teeth done in Prague. He's the same at the moment, he can't really chew anything. Hope you will be ok soon. Shirley, I meant to say, I missed that girls who only goes out with married men last Friday night week, but I saw the repeat on Monday. She was certainly flirting mad with Pat. At one point I felt like calling up the show and telling her to get a life. She made a comment that she wanted to meet another married man because she needs some sun and a holiday!! I wonder if she has heard of earning her own money and paying her own way. Woman like that, really annoy me. I just wonder why they bothered giving her air space on the show, surely there are more interesting people to interview. Just my opinion.

I don't think she went down well with the audience at all - but I was surprised that when Pat gave the females in the audience a chance to challenge her, nobody said anything. There's usually a few fiery people in the audience! It is intimidating, though. I was in the audience for the Late Late a few years back, and you know when there's the audience competition - just before he read out the name of the winner, I was thinking to myself that I'd be morto if the camera suddenly cut to me, even though it would be great to win the prize! It wouldn't be so bad speaking on TV if you had a chance to gear yourself up for it, but it's hard to do it on the spot. I didn't win the prize, by the way! :-) And it was a holiday to Turkey that night, so it would have been nice! I must try to meet you in Nenagh for a coffee if I ever go home again!! :-) I don't think I will be down for a while, because I'd be nervous about driving down the N7 with a very young baby, but I'm sure I will go down to my mother's place when the baby is a bit older. My mother tends to come up to Dublin more so than the other way around because she likes to get out and about and loves Dublin.

Shirley, I'd love to meet up for a coffee whenever you are down. I don't blame you for being nervous driving with a new baby, the roads are crazy these days. How are you feeling by the way? Well I hope. I hope that all goes well for you and look forward to meeting up with you sometime in the future. I'll send you a private message with my mobile number for whenever you do come down. We have some lovely coffee bars here now too. An excuse to have a yummy cake!!! Yeah I was surprised at the non reaction from the women in the audience too. I'd be like you about being in the spotlight too. Mum often sends scratch cards into the lottery programme with my name on them. As much as I could do with the money, I'd be mortified to go on the show if my card was picked!!

Ha ha, I would be exactly the same!!!! I would absolutely love to go on Winning Streak except for having to do that embarrassing interview at the start! I seem to love those granny shows like Winning Streak and Deal or No Deal (or maybe I love money!). It would be really great to meet you if I was down. I was hoping to pop down before the baby is born, but I'm actually a bit afraid to leave Dublin at all now just in case I'm tempting fate when there's only 3 weeks to go. Feeling a bit strange these days - nauseous again! But it'll all be over soon. Hey, wouldn't it be mad if we actually recognised each other!! I used to go out a lot in Nenagh in the old days, so you never know!

Shirley, Yeah it would be mad!! I was away for a long time though. I was in London for years and then Dublin, so I didn't really live here until 1998. I used to come on holiday though and for weekends. You might know my brother thought, he used to be in Easy Street and The Talbot all the time, and he drank in Rocky's quite a bit. His name is Garrett, and was and is friends with Mike Dillon, Eddie Butler, Johnny Gleeson and Mark Langton, don't know if any of those names ring any bells with you. Think you are right about not travelling at the mo. Hope you will be ok. Garrett's baby is due in two weeks too. It's their third!! I think that I would recognise you. I'm cheating LOL. You posted your wedding photo's when you got married. Anyway it will be great to meet up. I'm going to head off now. I'm wrecked tired after the weekend so talk to you during the week. Take care. It's really nice to chat on line for a change. Everybody is usually logged off by the time I get on in the evenings. Night for now!!

Girls, Talking about TV shows, do any of you watch those holiday houses abroad programmes? There was a whole night of them on tonight, on Travel & Living. Oh to win the lotto!! There was one programme on about buying property in Crete, my favourite place. Some of the houses were only in the region of €90,000.
