Lou Suffern is a man always in two places at once he never stops. one day he meets Gabe a homeless man who seems to have the same gift. at first Lou is really grateful to Gabe but then things become eerie and he no longer wants Gabe around. this is a story all about layers and how time is a precious gift.
lads i can't put this down i've read ten chapters already it is simply entralling if thanks for the memories was cecelia's most romantic book since P.S. than this is her most obscure since a place called here. Now Lou is a man who if i met in real life i would probably dislike he treats his wife like dirt, he leers at his secretary and doesn't even acknowledge his own children but somehow and this is a credit to CA's writing talent I empathsise with him!

Thanks Laura. I will keep an eye out for this book. I love the way she writes and her books just seem to keep on getting better and better. I'm sighing here with a touch of envy...would love to be half as clever!!

I went to check this out in Eason yesterday but every book is wrapped in clingfilm so you can't open it. I was disappointed as I love to read the first page of books when deciding to buy. I haven't bought it yet. I might hold off until Christmas and ask for it as a pressie (if I can possibly wait that long!)

Oh Megan, how could you resist it? Your will power is stronger than mine would be, obviously.

I have a couple of books to read at the moment and I only buy a book when I'm absolutely bursting to read it. I haven't reached that stage with 'THe Gift' yet but I might have by next weekend!

I bought this book yesterday and as Megan says its sealed. Its a very pretty looking book wrapped in a red ribbon but where is the synopsis on the back??? I thought that was very off putting.
If I hadn't know what the book was about I wouldn't have known what I was buying or maybe that is the whole point hence it being titled 'The Gift'!
I look forward to reading it.

I don't think many authors could pull that off. I hope it does well for her

Laura, I only noticed the synopsis at the last minute inside the book but as Claire says I don't think many authors could get away with that.
I'm seventy something pages in and I can't stand the main character Lou! I'm not overly gone on Geab either but there is something about the story that keeps making me want to read on.
The detectives story to 'turkey boy' is enthralling. I can't wait to read the out come of that.
All in all the characters are not the most likable but the descriptions more than make up for that.
This is a book for die hard Cecelia Ahern fans!

Hmm I was going to give this book a break but after reading your thoughts Laura I think I'll keep reading. To be honest I'm finding this book slightly preachy. Also some of the descriptions are a little OTT; neither a book for an adult or a teenager. It feels like the author is trying to embrace younger and older readers in this book; which makes it read slightly childish in parts yet adult-like in others If there is a message to be learned from this book than yes it is definitely worth giving it your time and I will finish reading it too.
