I like a magazine where ther's lots to read. I find all the beauty and diet stuff a little boring.
My article seems to have been read by a lot of people, judging by the comments I've got. It appears that most couples have had rip-roaring rows in the car about map reading!

Hi Mary,
I hope you like the rest. I will be buying yours to bring on MY holidays at the end of next month. And then I will be leaving it behind for my Italian friends (who love reading Irish books) to enjoy.
Finding Margo seems to have got off to a flying start in the shops. And one of my readers, who couldn't find it in Waterstones in Drogheda (she later got it in Eason's) e-mailed me to tell me that Waterstone had said it wouldn't be published until June. I then e-mailed Waterstones and politely (I swear!) enquired why they gave the wrong information to their customers. I was worried they'd get annoyed, but not at all. They told me they were really sorry this had happened and immediately hunted down the source of the problem and ordered extra copies. Then they e-mailed me again with a very nice apology and good wishes for the success of my novel. I thought this was really decent of them and lovely to see such a big chain being nice to an author. Hopefully they won't put Margo at the back of the shop!

Susanne I loved the first chapter too, and will be looking for it here in Australia...if by the time I have caught up with the new books I've recently bought (sitting in a pile waiting their turn, faithful friends already!!), it still isn't in our shops here, I will get it online. I love Margo already.

Thanks, Jo, I hope you'll enjoy the rest of the book. Amazon now have the stocks in.
My next novel is partly set in Australia, where I spent the first few years of my marriage and my second son was born. I loved Australia and the aussies and still have friends there. It would be such a thrill ot go on a book tour there!

Hi Susanne, that was so nice of Waterstone's. Isn't this book on the shelves business so intimidating? Of course there's a sense of satisfaction in knowing your book is on sale but it's a very nervous time too. And the competition! Just how many new books come on the market weekly? Including English publications , the number must be vast. No wonder PR has such importance .
Best of luck Susanne . Looking forward to the read and hope your book -and mine- will be on the front shelves for a long time! Mary O S

Hi girls, Finding Margo came to Spain with me last week and I enjoyed every minute...started it on the plane and finished it the next day by the pool.......a terrific read. Well done, Susanne. delighted (but not surprised) to hear it's doing so well. Continued success to you......

Oh, Mary,
That's lovely to hear. Thank you so much.
I came back late last night after my tour of the shops in Dublin. It was a great day and to my delight I couldn't sign the books in Hughes&Hughes in Dawson street (the big shop) because.... They had sold out the entire stock and had to re-order! In Eason's O'Connell Street, Margo was displayed under a whole shelf of your book, Mary O S, so I felt it was near a friend...
In Eason's Dawson street, they had made picture of the Eiffel tower against a night sky to go with the theme of Finding Margo and it looked beautiful. Everybody was lovely and we ended up in Cafe en Seine with all the staff of New Island and it was a great evening.

Did you see BBC 2 programme last night on Romantic Fiction? It dealt with the whole genre from Jane Austen right through to Barbara Cartland. Very interesting about why they choose the covers they do - even Jane Austen is getting the chic-lit cover treatment now. Marion Keyes and Martina Devlin were interviewed and Cecelia Aherne was featured too. Must say I felt very proud seeing Irish writers sharing the limelight with Jilly Cooper etc. Part 2 on tonight and features heros in romantic fiction -or chic lit - or whatever other term male reviewers care to label the work of women writers. Yes, it felt as if we were supporting each other out there in the big scary world of publishing.

Isn't that what writing is about......being proud of our fellow authors. It's like our kids being friendly at school, sharing a common bond as such!

Thanks Mary, I just read it. Lovely review and thanks for the five stars! And if you want to know more about women and map reading, get the current (June) issue of The Gloss, where there's an article I wrote on exactly that subject... I will post it on my website soon.

Finished this book last week sorry I have been chasing my tail all week. I Loved the character Grainne. She was a tonic. She had some sense of humour. margo annoyed me a bit I felt like slapping her on a number of times especially when it took so long to stand up to Alan. Well Done Susanne I really enjoyed it. Best of luck with it!! xx

I liked Grainne too Oons - she's rough and ready! Am still reading but am really enjoying all the references to Paris and the country and all the clothes and the lovely food! I have to agree with what you said about Margo as well - you really would like to give her a swift kick up the arse to wake her up a bit but that's a compliment to you Susanne - you've obviously done a good job on creating the character when you can evoke that type of response!

Thanks Oons and Fionn, I'm so glad you are enjoying Margo. And glad you want to hit her. But that's the person she is; kind and gentle. And I think it's very hard to stand up to a truly abusive person. It's easier to just agree with them and carry on. I also think that Margo grows and becomes more assertive as the story evolves. That's what I was trying to achieve, in any case. I hope you like Milady too, she is actually based on a French woman I met and grew to love in the end. She taught me a lot about style (not that any of it rubbed off).
