Irish Pen Presents: From Script to Screen- Writing for Film and Television

Ferdia Mac Anna, Andrew Meehan, Brian Gallagher and a representative from RTE’s Drama Department will hold a panel discussion on the rewards and pitfalls of writing for the film and television industries.

Ferdia Mac Anna was born in Dublin. He has published three novels, 'The Last of the High Kings' (Penguin 1991), 'The Ship Inspector' (Penguin 1995) and 'Cartoon City' (Hodder 2000) as well as an accaaimed memoir, 'The Rocky Years' (Hodder 2006). He has worked as a rock and roll singer, TV producer/director, journalist, magazine editor and house husband. He has written one poem.
Andrew Meehan was recently appointed to the position of Development Executive at Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board.
He has eight years experience as a writer and script editor and he was recently a writer on the Sigma Films/Zentropa Films 'Advance Party' trilogy. Before writing full-time Andrew was Head of Development at Antonine Films (Orphans and Magdalene Sisters) in Glasgow and then at Accomplice Television (Pure Mule and Bachelors Walk) in Dublin.”
Brian Gallagher is a full-time writer whose play ‘Departure Point’, was a prizewinner in the Irish Stage and Screen playwriting competition. He has many film and television credits to his name including adaptations of his own plays ‘Duet’, ‘Fitting In’, ‘Brothers and Sisters’, A Job for Life’ and ‘Captives’ for RTE. (He has also written many episodes of Fair City for them.)
His novels include Invincible, Flight, Payback and Pursuit and he has also had many short stories published.
