Morning Oonagh, its 5 here, I enjoyed the book too. I loved the descriptions of the snow fields and the village, it was if I'd been shown a picture. must admit though I'd decided I don't think I'd enjoy the skiing part, but I'd love to go to the snow some time.

I understood lucy's frustration with Clair at the start about being untidy and the reason Lucy didn't tell claire about wanting to leaft was because she thought Claire would persuade her not to go but I thought it was terrible the way she started ranting on to Claire about some guy that cllearly Lucy wasn't interested in, I kinnda turned me against Lucy as a character, i decided i didn't like her much.

I really like that the title was mentioned a few time throughout the book. Sometimes I'll get to the end of a book and wonder how the title had any revelance to the story but in this case it was very suiting.

Ah, but Lucy had lots of problems and not an easy childhood. That's why she was so ambitious and had to get ahead no matter what. But she wasn't happy even when she did make it, was she?

I softened to Lucy in the Evelator, I loved that scene (do you still call them scenes in books?) It kinda showed she wasn't as tough and icy as I had originally thought, but I still didn't warm to her a lot.

Hi girls, just back from the gym so I'm a bit late getting online. I'll get right into it and talk about the things I liked about the book. Firstly, I loved the setting. Sometimes I find certain settings hard to warm to, but this one went down a treat with me. Secondly, the humour in the book was excellent. It wasn't even the obvious jokes so much as the subtle humour - I mentioned something about this before just after I read the book (referring to a scene between Claire and Penny, if I remember correctly). Thirdly, I liked the fact that Susanne's style is distinctive from other writers. I think if I was handed a book of hers without a cover and asked to identify the writer, I would know it was her. This is mostly because I feel her writing is subtle - for example, in this book, she didn't tell us constantly how characters were feeling, and instead she let us work that out by reading between the lines, plus the use of humour contributed to her distinctive style as well.

What did you think of Bernard asking Claire as emilies teacher to go to the snow fields with her? I originally thought this was an odd request but the more I thought about it the more it made sense, Claire was a teacher and was use to handling children.

At first I got thrown off by the sudden change in characters life that we were looking at. I'd just get internested in that character and the itd swap and I'd be left sitting there thinking but I anted to read more about then. I quickly got over it and found I really enjoyed it, It was good to see everybody bodys view on things and to know what they were doing.

When it came to characters, Emilie was a gem. You must have had fun writing her dialogue, Susanne!

When Claire and Penny were in the Spa and Penny was smoking and then offered Claire some I was really trying to Will Claire not to take it. I didn't want her chracter to be so easily persuaded and then when the substance was found and not only did she know who owned it but she also knew she had used some I was like WELL What did you expect, You shouldn't have smoked it!!
I like towards the end when Alistar (i'm not sure that is his name, Pennys hubby anyway) said he knew she smoked whatever it was she was smoking.

Great to hear that Abby. it's always difficult to write a book with so many points of view but I decided to do this here, because I thought it might be interesting to see all the different ways they experienced the ski holiday. Some were good skiers and others were total beginners. And also their relationships were fun to develop in this way and there were different age groups too.

I loved Emilie, she came across to me as innocent but a spoilt brat. my favourtie was when she didn't tell the others about the backup freezer because she wanted to pretend they were trapped with no food. I could have hugged her, it was so innocent yet if you were there you could have strangled her.

yes, Shirley, I love doing children. I have so many of them all around me and they always say the most amazing things. Emilie was a little bit bold, of course, because she had been spolied and was an only child.

Penny's Character often surprised me, I never knew what she was going to do next. I hadn't expected the Penny we first met at the work related dinner party with the hugh cupboard of organised clothes to be so good at skiing, and then smoking and there were times she seemed to know who to handle emilie too.
