Eve feels her life is perfect. Or it would be if Liam would only pop the magic question and give her and their two children the security of marriage. But Liam is doing everything to avoid getting sucked into marriage. Eve finally takes the decision into her own hands and proposes to her partner of eight years.
Eve’s sister, Sam, is the opposite. She’s already turned down three proposals and is only interested in furthering her career as an author. But that’s until she meets Ronan, her sister’s neighbour and friend. Sam is convinced that she and Ronan are meant to be together, despite the fact he’s happily engaged and totally unaware of her existence.
Meanwhile on the other side of the world, Brooke is an editor with a giant publishing house. Finding a recently submitted manuscript on her desk, she begins to read it. What’s strange is that she cannot find out who has left there, but what’s even stranger is the stark comparison the story has with her own life. Unable to accept it as a work of fiction, Brooke travels across the world to find the author of this tale.
Melissa’s 6th book, The Last To Know, has her trademark twist in the tale. This time, however, the author has realised that the reader is expecting to be caught out so she has taken her writing up another notch by mirroring fact with fiction. Writing a story within a story, she weaves a mystifying plot. Intriguing! Well done Melissa Hill.

Ooh Mary, you have me tantalised now with that comment about how she realises the reader is expecting to be caught out!!! I had to physically hold myself back from buying this last week when I bought A Little Help From My Friends because I have so many other books to read....but now I think the temptation might prove impossible!!! I really want to know what the ending is!!! She is such a smart writer. Always one step ahead of the reader!

I like the sound of all characters being involved with writing and publication - a fascinating world to read about. I'm tempted too!

I finished this book today, having read it in 2 days, (not bad with 2 kids to look after) and really enjoyed it. i had to try really hard to not look at the ending as I just couldn't wait to find out, but I resisted. In true Melissa style this book will keep you turning the pages. You girls just have to read it!

i finished the last to know. mm it was interesting to say the least. Would not my favourite Hills book. Yes it was very cleverly done but i found some of the characters annoying etc. Eve just got my nerves a bit and the whole story with sam, anna and Ronan. The characters between the male and female lacked chemistry.
DONT READ BELOW ............................................................... for example Sam knowing she was going to spent the rest of ur life with ronan. Come on do people really know on their first meeting . I just thought it was far fetched. any how it has me think

This one was definitely my favourite of hers - loved the ending and the red herrings throughout!

Would this be good for a bookclub? It sounds like we might get good value out of it.

Yep, I think it has mileage!
She makes it all seem so easy, but I'm sure the amount of planning that goes into her plot twists is huge. Talented lady indeed!

I enjoy this book and like Nic I read it in two days. It's hard not to think about the twist that Melissa always has in her books but I just kept reading to keep my mind of it. First I thought that there was a problem with the print when I saw that there were two different styles but then I realized that it was done that way to keep the 'book' separate from the 'story'. Thought it was a great idea and I didn't realized that it was all about Brook until Eve was leaving Liverpool. The whole idea was great. And one thing I liked was that all the people were faithful to their partners

I bought this book yesterday, and I'm really looking forward to it now. Is it just me who does this? I could read The Last To Know next from my TBR pile as I have just finished a book but I'm not going to because I want the anticipation to last just a little bit longer.

Well, I read this book over the last two days. And it was a gripping read - once I got over the first few chapters. I enjoyed reading about the publishing world - that was my favourite part, so I perked up when Brooke arrived on the scene. The life of a publisher and how they regard sumbmissions is fascinating. It was also fun to read about Sam, the author, and to imagine that my life might be like that some day! ( I can always dream) However, had it not been for the publishing aspect to the story, I wouldn't have read it. I found there was too much repitition of information, as if the reader hadn't got the point and needed to be told three times! (I don't understand why that wasn't edited out). For me, there was also too much writing and words, in places, to say not very much (again, I would have edited that). But, on the other hand, I could see why she did it sometimes; it did serve to build tension. She made us wait for the next piece of action and that kept me turning the pages. Also she is very good at hoodwinking the reader. I found that interesting, and can see why this makes her books so successful. Mostly, I'm very glad I read this book for the insight it gave me into the world of publishing. I also loved 'The Other Side of the Story' by Marian Keyes for the same reason (and I adored the character of Lily in that story).

Didn't know this was about publishing and authors so I will deffo read it now! I think she's great at telling a story and really good at tricking readers into assuming things, the book about the mother and son was genuis!
