Shirley I've had a good look at Donegal and Kerry, spectacular scenery Kerry seems to be a very good chance; I'm really interested in semi-detached or something smallish, just not a lover of 'big' places. Then again if I'm wanting to have lots of animals, well that's another story I've also been looking at some second hand cars, much cheaper than here! thanks again, was another learning day for me!

kerry is a beautiful county hannah but can be expensive as it is one of the major tourist counties in eire...sometimes groceries are just a little bit dearer there..I found that when I was there...donegal is amazing scenery....you just wonder around in awe up there...

Angie Co Tipperary is quite reasonable in for sale prices, by the scenery in Donegal as you say I'll be wandering around in awe no doubt at all!
Susanmay was telling me how much she loves Kerry - it seems that there 'aren't' any places in Ireland absent of beauty!

Hannah, Kerry would be a bit expensive but I agree it is absolutely beautiful, as is West Cork. Some of Tipperary is nice, but if I had the choice I would be aiming to live nearer to the sea. Any more updates on your passport Hannah?

Hi Fran..oh groans here, just taking longer than I expected...but is all ok, ah that's life!
Its been raining here all day ;D and forecast for the week ;D...so I'm curled up with books to pass the time.
Just had a thought the other day Fran about being in Ireland this year for Christmas, that's just so wonderful to look forward to. About what time would the first snow fall come at the end of the year, and do some parts snow more than others?
LOL, if you think rain makes me happy, ach I'm a complete lunatic when the snow falls ;D

Hi Angie, I'm just about to do some Donegal exploring on the internet here; just to digress a little, I purchased a Daniel O'Donnell DVD the other day (was looking for a Foster & Allen and had to order in the one I need), he's very 'pretty' isn't he!!...Nah, I just love his voice, and my the ladies 'swoon' over him, or was I imagining it? Anyways I discovered he comes from there, god I've just so much to learn I'm discovering and enjoying doing so each day more and more. I also purchased an Irish jigs party CD that had all the favourite songs my grandad near wore out on records years back, it flooded back so many memories. Sorry if I sound daft...but I am at times. I think I'm just getting overwhelmed with the excitement of soon being on the way! Listen there's a winter sale on here soon, I'm going to be sure to buy some trackies (sloppy joes as we call them and matching pants, like for casual sportswear)...what do you guys call them kinds of tops/bottoms over there? Everything is marked way down, so I'll be stocking up on warm clothes...anyone need anything??? We signed our house sale contracts today ... woohoo!!!;DSettlement day has been changed now till the 30th June, and then I'll be heading off to spend time with my godparents and some of my family live in that area...really looking forward to spending time reading books, chilling out and counting the sleeps to flying out. I'll let you all know the date I'm leaving when the passport arrives...god I'll be celebrating that day!! and on the phone the next booking the ticket 'one way to Ireland please so I'll ask' ;D ;D ;D Actually its much cheaper if I ring up one day and get the next available flight out a day or so later - and the closer to Sept onwards, the cheaper the seats are anyways! hannah xox ps...god I'm sooooo excited girls!! ;D

Hannah congrats on signing contracts,we call them trackies over here Donegal is my fav place as well as Galway very beautiful parts of ireland.Sorry to D O D fans but can't stand the man....I actually met him a few times years ago and he was very pleasant and then about 2yrs ago he was at outside thingy of hugo duncans in newcastle, and refused to sing or sign autographs, cos he was appearing on concert that night in the slievedonard hotel, and he was quite rude about it to poor hugo. x

Oh Jacqui that's awful to hear that; very surprised!
Yes its grand to be able to sign the contracts at last, in fact Jacqui I'm very happy it only took 4 weeks or so to find a buyer! Anyways, still a few I's and T's to cross here and there, mainly feckin' paperwork, ach what isn't these days an everything costs another few $$, all adds up.
LOL..talking about DOD, I sent it on to a friend that's mad about him; I prefer Foster & Allen myself.
God Donegal is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I think Shirley may have been right that I'd like it there, but we'll see, a place by the sea would be great for the writing and inspiration..sure so would a pub with a pint though...sea view or not ;D

Donegal is beautiful Hannah. Hannah not guaranteed a white Christmas here, I only remember a few and we only really get a couple of inches of snow here ever. It's gas because we are so unused to snow that the whole country nearly comes to a stand still when we get even the smallest amount. But we'll hope for one just for you this year!! ok

LOL....about your comment on Daniel O'Donnell...Jacqui said a similar thing that he wasn't all too nice one particular time toward some fans wanting his signature. Its more the 'listening' to irish singers (in the background) when I'm writing. I'm writing a movie script at the moment...so it just helps with the ideas at times. Also I'm just today going up the street to pick up another DVD on 'Foster & Allen'....ach surely you don't mind them??? ('their' songs are helping with particular things I'm writing at the moment, great inspiration...I go into la la land reminiscing about things I remember from years back).

Petrol is much dearer here about 1.60 a lit Sorry Claire I meant to reply to this before, are the prices there for other things comparatively dearer also? sorry Hannah meant to get back to you on this. I find that the clothing is much cheaper in Ireland than here. Even the bargain shops like Pennys have a better quality for their cheaper stuff. Love them for the kids underwear. Eating out is not cheap either with an average of €35/€40 for a meal (main course+dessert and one or two drinks). My sisters found the supermarkets very cheap here but there is a 'price war' going on here with the markets. I can get a slice pan of white or brown for as little as 0.75cnts and can pay up to €1.70. At the baker it would be more expensive but the supermarkets are just as good. Dairy produce is an average of 0.90cnts for a liter of milk, huge choices of eggs, from very cheap to the more expensive free range 6 for less than €1. Can't think of anything else. Wine here is much cheaper and can get a good bottle for €5 or less.

Even the bargain shops like Pennys have a better quality for their cheaper stuff. Love them for the kids underwear. Eating out is not cheap either with an average of €35/€40 for a meal (main course+dessert and one or two drinks). My Thanks Claire for all of that information...have you Aldi there? The meals sound over the top as we say here, price wise. As I mentioned awhile back I love to cook, I'm not one for venturing out for meals all that often..however when I do, I'll go for value. There's a what we call here 'yuppie/up market restaurants'..and when ordering a meal, it arrives on the table looking very 'nice' all 2 by 2 inches of it.. , though wouldn't near feed a hungry belly! I'm hoping to find good old fashioned pub meals that serve a hearty plate, I don't mind paying for it when its that kind! I suppose because I do lots of making my meals, I seem to not be able to help thinking if a meal costs x amount, how many groceries I could buy for that LOL...god I hope this makes sense! I also cook in bulk, and freeze lots of things, using the oven heat to get it all done at the one time...oh as I said, my kitchen can certainly become quickly chaotic, using every pan and utensil in sight!..though the results are worth it all So what is 'pan'?? A bread name I'm guessing? Eggs are cheap alright; is where you are more of a good eating focus or culture? Speaking of where you live, I went today into a Travel Agent, I asked if I can avoid Heathrow and fly into elsewhere and then to Ireland. Your airport came up in conversation; "oh I said". As its smaller, I'm seriously considering by passing London and flying onto Ireland from Amsterdam. The guy said Heathrow is 'mad but exciting'. I've to choose which stopover, Singapore, Kualumpar - or I can fly to Dubai, which of course is a longer first stretch, but closer on the second half to UK...sooo, I'm still deciding. As its peak season price wise, tourist/students etc, and after staying with family before leaving, I think early Sept will be a better time. Only 11 days now till we settle with house sale Yayyy! All is going well, though crikey there's a whole difference moving country to moving to the next suburb or so! One thing I'm so greatful for is that over there its still pounds and inches, the metric thing here I've never adjusted to! Ha I say 'feet and inches' and you should see the looks at times I meant it when I said I'll be raising chickens when I'm settled, growing my own food, having a real cow ;D growing a garden, and 'probably' I'll have a sign at the gate 'Noah's Ark ahead'.. ;D
