Well girls, I read about 2/3 of this book this weekend.....it's such a page-turner. I'm at the stage now where Sally goes to meet Angela - won't say any more for fear of ruining it, but those of you who have read it will know whereabouts that is in the book. Can't wait now to read the rest of it. The Senior Moments experience really scared me - I felt so sorry for Sally!!!

Ok i know i'm only a month late for reading this but i have to say what a Fantastic book i loved every second of it, it was such an easy book to get inot and i would definately read another of Tracy's. The front cover like many have said does not give the book justice!
If Tracy reads this where did you get your inspiration for More Than Friends?
One of the best i've read this year!
Thanks Charlie for sending me it, Its on its way to Nicc now so 'enjoy'

I finally got round to reading this book and here is the review I've posted on my LJ and on Book World.
More Than Friends - Tracy Culleton
More Than Friends tells the story of Sally, a single 32 year-old who is beginning to panic about being left on the shelf as she watches all her friends settling down, getting married and having children. After a suggestion from her best friend, Gaby, she decides to join an internet dating agency and it's through this that she meets Chris. After a whirlwind romance, Sally moves in with Chris and gives up her job to focus on writing a novel. Soon she is starting to have what she calls 'Senior Moments', incidents where she forgets things including entire conversations sometimes. As Sally becomes more and more isolated from the people who care about her, she begins to rely on Chris for everything, but is he really all that he seems and can their relationship stand the test of time?
More Than Friends is a very powerful book with an even more powerful message...that emotional and verbal abuse can be just as damaging as physical abuse.
I think the plot was a risky one for any author to approach, but I personally think Tracy Culleton did a fantastic job and I applaud her.
The main character Sally is very likable and even though I thought she was a bit naive at times, the way in which the book is written makes you understand from quite early on just how insecure and alone Sally feels and the reasons why she manages to get sucked into Chris's lies so easily.
I can fully understand why some women like Sally would rather stay in a bad relationship rather than face life on their own. I found it quite terrifying that Chris was able to manipulate Sally into thinking something that wasn't true so easily but everyone wants to feel loved and wants to belong and when someone lacks confidence like Sally does, then I guess you would grab what little love you can get regardless of the bad times that you may have to put up with along the way.
Saying that it does makes me feel quite sad thinking that there are thousands of women like Sally who are in or have been in a relationship with an abusive man. Maybe not in the exact same way as Sally was with the man suffering from NPD as I'm sure there are some men who treat women like Chris treated Sally just for the sake of doing so, but it does make me sad that they feel so unloved and so insecure that they would rather put up with being treated like dirt rather than being alone.
Although in Chris's case his inexcusable behaviour is explained through the illness NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder), by the end of the book I didn't feel any sympathy for him whatsoever and was so happy when Sally found happiness in a place she didn't expect it.
Having never read any of Tracy Culleton's books before I wasn't sure what her style of writing was like or whether I'd enjoy it but after reading More Than Friends I can honestly say that this is an author which I will be adding to my favourites list and will certainly be trying to track down her other works.

Yes, Oonahg. I did finish Time in a Bottle. I meant to tell you about that. It was a another compelling read, like her first book, but I found the subject matter pretty difficult at times. Having a sick child must be so heartbreaking that at times I thought I wouldn't be able to read it. I prefered her first book 'Turning Turtle' - it was the best account of a woman's reaction to her husband's affair that I have ever read. Will I send it back to you Oonagh or put it on the pass it on thread? Thank you again for lending it to me.

By the way thanks for the comprehensive review Karen. I also really enjoyed this book and identified with the main character! However I would have prefered her to remain on her own at the end of the novel, and to be happy without a man for a longer period of time before getting into another relationship.
