no it was susan but I also agree susan Flipside was one of my favourites of Tinas What did you think of wedded blitz Lisa?

Post by claire on Apr 28, 2005 19:51:43 GMT
But haven't you noticed that nearly all books have the 'gay guy'. And he is always the same

Post by susan on Apr 28, 2005 19:52:31 GMT
That was me Lisa.
He was funny but very predictable. Kinda the same old cliche of what people think a gay man would say.

susan and everyone eles you have to read Something Borrowed dont give up Dont get me wrong I did enjoy Wedded Blitz just not as much as Tinas others

Post by lisa on Apr 28, 2005 19:54:22 GMT
sorry it was susan who said that about patrick!
Yeah, funnily enough even though Tina is my very favourite writer, I really hate having to say it, I do think all her others were better than Wedded Blitz, (oh god forgive me!!)
ah no seriously though, Tina is an amazing writer, her skill putting dialogue on paper is absolutley amazing, and Ive yet to come across another writer who can do the things she can do with words, but unfortunatly I found Wedded Blitz to be a teeny bit on the weak side compared to the likes of 'Onion Girl' and 'flipside'.
I found Sheila though (Janes Mother) to be absolutly hilarious!! You can just imagine what shes like, thats the beauty of tina's writing I think, you can read a page of her books and within seconds your right there with all of the characters, in the same room as them, I really dont know how to explain it properly, but its like she can put you right there in the middle of the atmosphere brilliantly! God, that doesnt make sense at all girls does it???

I think I'll have to keep lookin for this book even if it's only to find out what a sterotypical gay guy would do say etc. I've never met or read about a gay guy don't know if i've even seen one in a movie.

I'm not trying to be funny or anything but this kinda stereotyping must be very annoying to any homosexual people. I think anybody who dosn't know a thing about writing could have wrote the dialogue for Patrick.
It's like American's thinking that we still have pigs in the kitchen!!!!!!!!

Lisa you always make sense. specialy when I'm on the beer only joking, god I don't know what's up with me tonight. But I know just what you mean. When you can 'feel' the characters it makes it all more believable

SNAP CHARLIE!!
Looks like were are both thinking the same thing at the same time!!
Yes, girls defo dont give up on reading any of Tina's , god no that would be a mortal sin.
I did enjoy the story immensley, and thats another trait of Tina's, she never has loads and loads of characters, she can pull off an excellent novel with maybe 5 or 6 people which is brilliant I think!
I dont know about you guys, (susan and Charlie) but did you find that you were really waiting and waiting for some huge big bombshell to be dropped and found that you were kinda disspointed when you got near the end?
God, i really feel like Im betraying Tina!! I suppose Im looking for all the negative points now cos thats how we started off htis conversation, but there are some brilliant bits too girls arent there? and they style of writing in itslef is wonderful, you cant find a fault there at all with that, i think, what about ye?

Let's but it bluntly Fred was a bit of an a*sehole!!!
I forgot about him at the start. There was no annoying characters except him. I think everybody knows a Fred.
Ye Owen's character was left just hanging.

A funny scene in the book was when Sheila was arrested for having a stolen credit card!!!!
And Jane's version of when she was younger the slagging she got from her friends for having her parent's in a magazine!!!!
Have to say Jane's father was a classic. His radio show was hilarious.

It sounds like a book that has a bit of everything. well I mean you can't like all of the characters, because that just not real, you don't like everyone in real life. And the father is the lovable rouge
