Hi girls, The general consensus this month was that we would leave having our book club for January and hold off till February instead. What with Christmas and everything things fell behind a bit! Sorry about that! So, the next on -line book club meeting is for Thursday 24th February 2005 at 8.00p.m. The book agreed is Patricia Scanlons Two for Joy.
I do hope we get lots of people to join in our discussion. Also, a quick reminder for March- we will be discussing Melissa Hill's Never say Never.
Look forward to seeing everyone at our book club on the 24th of next month!
Regards,
Lisa x

Hi Lisa,
Guess you won't be at Deansgrange at the writing talk this eve so! Busy lady. Good luck with tonight's book club. Just wanted to say, if you want to do my new one, It Had to Be You, for April, Pan Macmillan my publishers are kindly giving me copies - so I can send some out for the club if you like. I only have a certain amount so it will be first come, first served. Maybe you could let me know. I'll put one aside for your good self if you like as you are a great supporter of us Irish Girls. But I think you may have read it. If so, I'll get you a proof of the new one for Aug - Take a Chance - about an Abba band. Are you an Abba fan? I adore them!
Best,
Sarah

Well i don't know about you lot but I really enjoyed Two For Joy. I picked up the book and got stuck in straight away. Heather was a wonderful character and I just wanted things to work out for her and for her to find someone. Lorna was a real B-with an ITCH. She reminded me so much of a 'friend' I had back in school, I was only of use to her if she could get something out of me. As for Neil, he too was a real user and so full of himself. Funny how you can see someone faults so clearly when reading a book!

I enjoyed Two For Joy but did find it a bit predictable. I just about cheered when Heather got her revenge on Neil when she found out about him and Lorna. When it comes to those two "what goes around comes around", and they both got what they deserved in the end. And I thought it was very touching when Noreen had her babies, brought back memories for me. Yeah I did enjoy it and will probably read it again in the future.

Hi Sarah. Any chance of getting one sent over to Australia or would that not be possible? If not I'm sure I'll find some other way of getting it. Don't think your books are available over here but I ordered Three Times a Lady from Poolbeg and really enjoye it so would like to read more. Just let us know eiter way. Thanks, Nic

Oh Dear! okay, firstly my sincere and deepest apologies for not turning up last night.
I had a nightmare of an evening and wasnt able to get out to a internet cafe to use a computer.
Some bloody egit crashed into me on the way home from work last night, Im okay but my poor car isnt. By the time police came and I was checked out (due to being pregnant they insisted), it was after nine before I was heading home again.
Im terrible sorry girls, i was really looking forward to last night. I have to get a lap top I think for home. I have a big bulky PC but there just aint the room in my apartment as its only a two bedroomed apartment and Kai's in one his and his toys are starting to come out of his door on their own!
So thats me and my excuse and I apologise perfusly again..... but where the hell was everyone else??
Bar Claire and Nic of course, poor Claire was talking to herself it looks like for the guts of an hour! Fair play to you girls for tuning in.
Seriously though, it does seem like the same few people every month that join in the book club doesnt it? Theres ALOT more members than the four or five that usually turn up, where are they all??!!
Ive just gone to check and theres 86 Members!! Surely there has to be more than 5 interested in joining in a discussion? no?
I really thought the on-line book club was going to take off when it started off, maybe not?
I for one want to continue it anyway, what does everyone else think? Truthfully now girls.

Hi Sarah,
I would be absolutley over the moon and SO very honoured to be able to read a pilot copy of "Take a Chance"!!
I LOVE ABBA!!
Abba is one band that you never tire of hearing any of their songs! You can be gaurenteed to hear "Money Money Money..." in most Irish Weddings!
I love "There was something in the stars that night, la la shining bright.... fernado!" (forgot the words there!)
I just love "Take a chance" but the very beginning when they sing "Takeachance Takeachance" real quick, it sounds like a train!! ;D ;D ;D
okay lisa enough...... Brilliant Idea Sarah!! Cant wait to read it! Where did you get the idea for your book? Your love of Abba? What a fabulous idea!!!
Thats amazing thank you! When is it available??
Yes, your right though I have read "It had to be you" and so very much enjoyed it. It was very different I found from all your previous ones but to be honest I loved "It had to be you" the most!
I would really enjoy using it for the book Club Sarah. How many copies would your publisher be able to give to us? I know Nic and Claire want one anway, I could check out postage and send it to the girls, I dont think it would be that much really anway. Whats a few euro when its going to give someone hours and hours of pleasure? I would absolutley go crazy if I lived somewhere where I wasnt able to have easy access to all my favourite authors! Sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it! ;D
Was the cover done by a different designer also? Truth again, I MUCH preferred the cover of "It had to be you" out of all the others.
Hope last night went well Sarah,
Thanks again,
Lisa x

Well Lisa, yourself and Nic both had a busy time last night/morning I hope you're all right after that crash and the police were right to get you checked out, to be on the safe side. How bad is the car, will you need a new one? If you have anyaches or pains of any sort please get them checked out. A pregnant friend got a whiplash a couple of weeks ago and is having some trouble with her balance ever since. She keeps getting very dizzy. You take it easy over the weekend and do what Mary is planning: a packet of chocolate biscuits, bottle of baileys, on to the sofa and read, read, read Cathys new book ;D And Nic, I can remember only too well when the kids were small and I never got the time to sit down. I seemed to only finish one thing and the next job was waiting. And as good as our men can be they are also great at turning a blind eye to what needs to be done. Did you find the kittens from your neighbour? i'm sure the girls would have loved helping to look for them. Don't you two worry about last night. Like you said Lisa there are a lot more members, I just hope that they are not put off by our friendship thet we have developed over the last few months. They should know that they are all welcome to join in any of the chats going on, the more the merrier That's enough for me, I hope that the next club goes better and that more people join in. Well if I'm not around later, enjoy your weekend and see you all next week Claire xx

I have a good excuse - honestly. Firstly, I hope you are all Ok after your traumatic evenings. (Especially, you, Claire. It must be scary to be in cyberspace all alone.) Actually, I spent yesterday evening at the launch of my good friend Roisin Meaney's latest book - 'Putting out the stars.' We had a great evening, and it was very well supported. I'm now half way through the book, and loving it. Especially interesting for me, as it's set on the road where I live. (Luckily that's a very big road, so I don't feel the book is too personal.) Also I'd be in trouble if I didn't like the book, as Roisin is currently teaching my youngest daughter, Annie! Very busy here in Limerick these days as there's going to be two more launches next month - a lot for a small city like this.

Thanks for that Claire. Yes I feel grand, neither of us were going very fast so thats one good thing. The car can be fixed without a doubt. Its only the side door (my side though!) thats a bit bashed and he took my wing mirror totally off aswell. A bit of a job on the paint work and I reckon that should be it really. Thank god it wasnt more serious. All i was worried about was the bloody book club! I knew I was fine as I wasnt hit at all really, but I kept trying to hurry things up telling them I had a book club to go too! When they heard it was online, I think they thought I was a bit barmy! Maybe thats why they wanted me to get checked out! He he!! Anyway, your right claire, I will take it easy over the weekend. Ive got my scan on tuesday so looking forward to that! Have a good weekend everyone if I dont "talk" before then! all the best, L x

Hi Lisa,
Good to hear you are all right - you poor thing - how awful. And take it easy over the next few days, please. I'll happily send out books to you and a few of the other regular 'girls' - so maybe people could send me their addresses on my personal email address - sarah@sarahwebb.info - and I'd do that in early April when I get the books from London. I think you'll really like the 'Abba' cover - it's dark pink with a white boot on it and it great fun - I'll get Catherine to post it when it's confirmed.
Bye for now,
Sarah

Hi again Lisa, Sorry, I didnt' answer your question on the covers. I am having a day off writing today as I just finished the final (I Hope!) rewrite of Take a Chance which is coming out in August. I'm very excited about it as you can probably tell. The cover for It Had To Be You was actually done especially for the Irish market. The UK cover is very different - I think there may be a UK cover on my website - www.sarahwebb.info - anyway it's on amazon for sure www.amazon.co.uk - it's yellow - do let me know what you think - as I said, it's really different to the Irish one. The design team in Pan Macmillan, my publishers are in charge of the covers but they do show them to me to see if I like them. They very kindly changed the It Had to Be You Irish cover for me - to the heart - the image started out as a rosette (election theme - we don't 'do' rosettes for elections much in Ireland - it's more a UK thing). Take a Chance will also have a different Irish and UK cover - the UK one will again be an illustration and the Irish one more photo like. Different markets, different tastes etc. It's an area I'm really interested in - covers. So - to end - any feedback is most appreciated - on any of my or other writer's covers - always great to hear from readers on this topic. Best, Sarah Must mind Amy now - she's pulling at my jumper to be lifted!

Hey Charlie Please don't be shy about joining in the next time. And yes it works just like this, you leave a message read the other ones and keep on chatting. Even if you haven't read the book you should join in. I haven't read most of them yet as it's not always easy for me to get my hands on them but I love coming along. I hope to see you the next time Claire

Thanks, Sarah. I love that cover. It's real catchy! I've been watching book buyers lately and the cover seems to have a huge impact on why they even pick a book up! do you agree? Also, in our new Easons in Mahon Point shopping centre (fab new mall in Cork - take a look when you're down) they have a table right inside the door with selected books on it. Melissa's 'never say never' for instance is sitting there right now. People come right in and go for that table to make their selections. Sometimes they don't even check out the tills. So it's a point to watch to up the sales!!
Kind regards, Mary

Hi Mary, Yes, bookshops are vital to the whole process - and luckily for me I have worked in them for years and still work for them as a children's consultant. Display is vital and if your book is not in the 2 for 3 promotions this can also effect sales.
Lisa, Won't get the books till April sorry. Sarah XXX
