How about after Christmas or the first week of the New Year. As for a book I wouldn't know, I've no idea what's around at the moment but it would be nice to pick something that is available all over which would mean a book that is not just released?

SArah had suggested the 23rd of December? most people will be on hols anyway so would probably work out easier.
We need suggestions though, and clares right something that is readily available but that we havent read yet aswell.
I was thinking what about Jaye Carrolls new one? Should be easy enough for everyone to get shouldnt it?

SÃle here! Coincidentally I have just finished reading "Looking for Mr. Wrong" and I would really recommend it for our next book club meeting. I really enjoyed it and would be interested in hearing what others thought of it. If it is chosen I will give a more thorough critique!

Im just checking with Sarah and Catherine if thats okay go ahead with Jaye Carroll. I know Sarah had said to me that we need a book that nobody has read yet but Want to read, but i think its a good idea, and i dont think it matters that much if a couple of people have already read it. At least that way there will be more on the night to join in and give their opinions you know? I'll get back to you before the days out Nic cos i know you want to order it. Would it be any quicker if i posted you a copy do you think? L xx

Poolbeg are really good with there postage. A couple of weeks ago I ordered some books on Thursday and I received them the following Tuesday so I thought that was great, so I'll just get it from them thanks anyway. Besides I'll probably get a few others also (don't tell Andrew though he,he). Well I might as well make the most of the sale they have on and it seems a bit pointless to just get one book sent, doesn't it? That's my excuse for getting more books and I'm sticking to it! Bye for now ;D ;D

Hi Lisa, I dont know if its a good idea as isnt the author one of our members. I dont think i oculd be objective about it when I knew the author will be able to see what I've said. I don't thnk it woudl be fair to Tracy Culleton to have her book on the bookclub. I though we werent going to do member authors boosk on here? Sorry, just my thoughts. I'd reather go with Jaye Carroll as at least then I can be honest. Sorry Sophie

I wouldn't worry about that- after all I set up the website so that any writer could sign up and be a member- if we excluded their books- we might end up with no one to review for the bookculb

Hi Sophie, thanks for your comments but can I say though, Why cant you be honest to people to their face?? Sorry no rephrase that - how do you know jaye carroll wasnt goint to drop in to hear what weve got to say anyway! Some- well nearly most of the Irish authors we read drop into this site from time to time anyway. And, if you cant be honest with people sure whats the point!! Seriously though, wouldnt you want to be honest in your thoughts, views and comments to the authors Sophie? Im nearly sure they dont just want to hear all the nice things we've got to say, but to be truthful and if that includes some things that you dont like - well so be it. If we were to only choose books that we knew the writers were never going to check out this site from time to time, or ones that we only said good things about, i feel it would be a very boring place. I would feel a bit phony personally anyway, it would be like I can only be honest when the people arent here to read what im saying about them?? That aint me - sorr-ee! Thats just my opinion though. Thanks Sophie & Girls, L xx

Hi Lisa, Sorry I put that the wrong way, wath I meant was I wouldnt feel comfortable saying something bad - not if I thought it might hurt the author. Tracy seems very nice and it would be terribel if peopel had bad things to say about her books or anything. (havent read it so I can't s ay) I'd jsut feel awful about hurting anyones feelings - after all its only a book to us, but they've taken all htsi time to write it. So knowing that Tracy might come in to have a look, I'd only say good things and if I didnt like something i'd hold back on saying it. But that's just me. Sophie X

I feel I have to agree with Lisa - we represent alot of the readers out there and it would only make sense to give our honest opinion when reviewing a book - I'm sure that is what every author would want to hear.
One thing it can do is bring some publicity for the authors that come on to this website. I have to admit that I didn't hear of some of them before I stumbled across it.
And for those of us who do not like a certain book and say some negative things about it, there will still be the others who will have the opposite view! Cecelia Ahern's second book is a classic example. I know some of us hated it, but some of us loved it!
We're not out to hurt the author's feelings purposely. I'm sure the author's must know that themselves.
It is perhaps more understandable if author's themselves do not comment on their colleague's work. Some may be afraid of that, some may be biased, I don't know for sure. But for us reader's, it would not make sense to say we really loved a book when deep down we weren't entirely satisfied with it.
Deep down I don't think Tracy will be disappointed in the review about her book - she seems to be quite a lively down to earth character herself, who I'm sure can take the bad with the good. (having said that I've read her novel, and let me just say, I doubt there will be too much, if any, bad to say about it!)

Hi to everybody. Tracy here. First to say that I am so honoured and delighted that you have all picked Loving Lucy to be your BookClub book. Secondly to say that several people have asked how they can be honest about it knowing that I'll be reading it - fair question, and here' s my answer(s): 1. I am not for one moment so arrogant as to think that Loving Lucy is perfect and nothing bad could be said about it, so if people say 'bad' things, then that's fair enough. 2. If people are honest about what they see as flaws, then I can genuinely appreciate the compliments instead of thinking, 'aw shucks, they're just saying that.' javascript:adds(" ") Cheesy 3. I would much rather have honest critiques from you - enthusiastic readers all and genuine people, and could judge how I'm doing based on that - than on reviews in mags and newspapers where sometimes the novel wasn't even read! 4. Writing is a skill as well as whatever talent I may have, and again, I'm not so arrogant as to think I know everything there is to know about my trade - feedback is not only okay, it's *essential* in order that I can improve my writing skills as my writing career progresses. 5. Anything you say about Loving Lucy will be too late for me to improve that novel, but will be invaluable feedback for me in writing my current novel. So far from being concerned about what you might say, I'm welcoming it, good and 'bad'. 6. To be perfectly blunt, as a writer you are putting yourself and your work 'out there', and people are going to have opinions and say things, and I came to terms with that a long time ago - it comes with the territory, and if I can't stand the heat I should get out of the volcano!! 7. Last but not least, I work with an amazing tool called EFT (check out my website www.tracyculleton.com/eft for more dtls), and it removes negative emotions replacing them with calm acceptance, so even if there's the tiniest risk of getting hurt or upset, it's the work of a moment to neutralise those feelings - so you simply won't be hurting me or upsetting me. 8. So, go girls!!! I hope you enjoy your reading and your subsequent discussions, and please, please, say what you think - I repeat, you'll be doing me the favour of honest customer feedback, and that's priceless. 9. I've been experimenting with smileys, hope they come out but if there's strange text mixed in that's what that is!! All best to everybody, Virtual hugs, Tracy

Hi Everyone,
I think Tracy is 100% right - authors need honest feedback, both positive and negative in order to develope their writing.
One of the 'best' reviews I've ever received was a rather iffy one in one of the national newspapers that had two excellent points/suggestions which I know made my writing better. Yes, it hurt to read the criticism at the time, but in the long run it was most helpful.
As writers we have strange lives really. For example it's now almost half eight in the evening and I'm at my desk writing (supposed to be writing anyway!) and most other folk are having a life I guess. Kids are in bed, house is quiet and it's a lovely time to write really. I feel blessed to write full time, I'm living my dream. But in my daydreams it was a lot more glam!! But it's a great life and I'm so grateful to be living it.
But please - don't be afraid of hurting writer's feelings, we do appreciate honesty and honest criticism, it makes us better writers in the long run.
Back to work now,
Sarah XXX
