I just finished this book last night - it was fantastic!! Brilliant ending, right down to the very last page where we find out who the bidder was. The story of what happened to Jason was a perfect conclusion to her search, and you could almost feel the fact that Lucy had totally moved on. The Paddy bit was sooooo sad (but everytime Paddy was referred to as 'she' it made me laugh - who calls a female dog Paddy? That was classic). And what happened with her career was brilliant too - she finally had proof that she had the talent to make it all along. Everything just ended exactly the way it should without being too predictable or cringy. I reckon that as "chick lit" books go, this is as perfect an example as you'll get - everything about it was great. Deffo the best Tina Reilly book I've read. I must read Is This Love? and Wedded Blitz now!!!!! Tina certainly deserved that IMPAC nomination (even though it was for Something Borrowed, but that's a great book too). Ever notice how all her main male characters are men you can totally fall in love with yourself as you're reading the book? Doug sounded like such a dote. I remember someone else here saying they liked Ed in Something Borrowed as well.
The only bad thing is that I feel like I'm wasting my time writing my book after reading this!!

Thanks Claire!
Just one other thing to say about this book. You know how a lot of books are described as being full of warmth? Well, I often don't feel that warmth after I've finished a book. With this one, I so did. It was in Lucy's descriptions of her feelings for Fainne, her relationship with Doug, the Paddy situation - everything. Well done Tina!

Hi Girtls,

I read this book while down in Kerry and really enjoyed it. I agree with a lot of what you have siad above - it is very funny and warm. And I like Tina's main characters because they tend to be lacking in confidence (at first). I also thought it was very clever how we could see Lucy's character developing and yet the story was told through her eyes. We could see her faults before she did. And some great one liners. What a dry sense of humour!
The only bit that didn't work for me was when she got together with Doug at the Christmas party - I thought the description of their attraction for each other was fantastic and their coming together too (I loved the way her fancied her so much!), but when she went all cold on him in the morning I was annoyed. It didn't ring true for me and I felt that the rest of the book would be just about them getting back together again. At that point I checked the end of the book to see if she ended up with Doug, saw that she did but decided to go back and read the rest anyway because Tina is such an entertaining writer. But I was not as enamoured with the story from that point. Up until then I had no idea where the story was going and really enjoyed that.
However I thought that Jason being dead was very believable and like the others said it was great that Fainne got together with her grandfather in the end. Tina's dialogue is brilliant! I loved the conversations with Mr. D about the dog. She really is a genius at that!
So that's it from me. I will always read books by Tina Reilly because of her warmth, humour and great dialogue.

i could really feel that when she woke after the xmas night and she was she done she was scared. i totlly sympathiesed with her and that why she went all cold.. I think its probably a normal reaction most of the time or is just me. a sign of committment and people run. you do feel like slapping her and tellig her to get her act together definetly and not do that a gorgeous and a lovely fella.

I was cross with her doing it to herself and to him! It didn't make sense to me! But sure we're all different! It's very interesting to hear that you could sympathise with her! To me he was lovely and they had just had a fab night. She could go for it - what's the bleedin problem??!!! :) ( Mind you I have been with my husband/ boyfriend for a very looooooong time ( since I was sixteen) so my perspective may be a tad different!

Since u were 16 wow. thats cool!! I totally understand how you coulkd be cross with her. He was lovely but she was scared of committment and it copuld destroy their working relationship yet i know it did in the end. maybe she was hoping they could forget about it. Maybe im reading too mucg into it. Im hitting the hay. night all
